In this study, a strain of Pseudomonas stutzeri was isolated from a pesticide-contaminated field in India, and modified agricultural waste was used as a bioadsorbent for the removal of pesticides, particularly chlorpyrifos, from soil and water. The effectiveness of the bioadsorbent was confirmed by various analytical techniques, and potential application methods for this degradation process were discussed.
Nowadays, over utilization of pesticides in agricultural sector has considered being a high threat to human beings and aquatic animals. Pseudomonas stutzeri was isolated from the pesticide-contaminated crop field, Vaniyambadi, India and identified by the 16S rRNA sequencing method. The agricultural by-product biomass - Delonix regia seeds, which are not useful for any purpose, were collected and their surface was modified using concentrated H2SO4, and then used as a bioadsorbent to eradicate available pesticide present in soil and water environment. The readied bacterial biomass and agro-waste bioadsorbent are classified by Scanning Electron Microscope, Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and Fourier-transform Infrared Spectroscopy investigations. Blending sulfuric acid modified Delonix Regia seeds with microbe explicit degradation pathways could comprise an important procedure to remove toxic as well as uncontrollable pesticides present in soil and water. Ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer as well as Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis assured elimination of chlorpyrifos present in soil and water environment, also, the percentage removal of chlorpyrifos shoot up for the 14th-day samples (water and soil) are calculated as 95.29% and 93.10%, respectively. Potential application methods of the considered biodegradation procedure were additionally discussed. This study reveals that the prepared mixed bioadsorbent has greater potential to remove chlorpyrifos from the pesticide-contaminated water and soil. (C) 2021 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.
