Summary: Infective endocarditis (IE) is a rare disease with a high mortality rate and rising incidence, and timely diagnosis is crucial for appropriate therapy. Imaging tests, such as echocardiography and cardiac computed tomography (CCT), play an important role in diagnosing IE. The joint application of these tests improves the overall sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing IE.

Summary: This study compared the diagnostic accuracy of CT and TEE for detecting infective endocarditis and found that CT had higher sensitivity for detecting abscesses, while TEE had superior sensitivity for detecting valve vegetation. Well-designed prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: Although echocardiography is essential for diagnosing infective endocarditis, in cases where no evidence is found but clinical indicators are still consistent with the diagnosis, repeat imaging with proper timing and method such as TTE, TEE, or advanced imaging is crucial.

Summary: Infective endocarditis (IE) is a diverse disease with high morbidity and mortality rates. It can affect native valves, prosthetic valves, and intra-cardiac devices, causing systemic complications. Early diagnosis and risk stratification of IE rely on a combination of clinical, laboratory, and cardiac imaging evaluation. Various imaging modalities, including transthoracic echocardiography and advanced techniques such as cardiac computed tomography and F-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography, play important roles in providing essential diagnostic and prognostic information for IE.

Summary: Infective endocarditis is a relatively rare but deadly cause of sepsis with changing epidemiology and clinical forms. Management of infective endocarditis requires close collaboration of multidisciplinary teams for comprehensive decision-making on diagnosis, treatment, surgery, and selecting patients for out-of-hospital care.

Summary: Ultrasound (US), CT, and their combination have different diagnostic accuracies in detecting cervical lymph node metastasis (CLNM) in patients with papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). US has higher sensitivity and specificity than CT in detecting CLNM in patients with PTC, especially in the lateral compartment. The combination of US and CT increases the sensitivity in the patient-based analysis.

Summary: In patients with PVE, cardiac CT was found to be more accurate in diagnosing valvular and perivalvular abscesses, vegetations, and inflammatory infiltration compared to echocardiography. However, echocardiography had a higher diagnostic value in evaluating paravalvular leakage. The combination of cardiac CT and echocardiography improves the diagnostic accuracy of PVE and both examinations should be performed in these patients.

Summary: This study evaluated the diagnostic performance of contemporary transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in the diagnosis of infective endocarditis (IE). The results showed that the sensitivity of the initial TEE for detecting IE was higher in 2019 compared to 2011, especially for prosthetic valve infective endocarditis (PVIE). This improvement may be attributed to the use of probes with higher frame rates/resolution and the utilization of three-dimensional (3D) technology.

Summary: Delayed enhancement cardiac CT scanning is reliable for the diagnosis of left atrial appendage thrombus but limited by scanning heterogeneity. In this study, we found that early contrast-enhanced CT scanning with 1 and 3-min delay phase significantly improved diagnostic efficiency and direct 3-min delayed scanning is suitable for high-risk patients.

Summary: A total of 9 guidelines were identified for the appropriate use of echo in adult IE patients, with AGREE II scores ranging from 36 to 79%, and stakeholder involvement domain receiving the lowest score. The most controversial issue is whether follow-up TEE is necessary in uncomplicated native valve IE with initial positive TTE, with conflicting recommendations based on limited evidence.

Summary: This meta-analysis aimed to determine the incidence of postdischarge-to-30-day mortality and its predictors in patients who underwent MitraClip implantation. The results showed that the mortality rate during this period was approximately 2%, with the majority of deaths being due to cardiac causes. Pre-MC left ventricular ejection fraction, Log.Euroscore, Society of Thoracic Surgeons Predicted Risk of Mortality score, and prolonged ventilation were found to be significant predictors. Further studies are needed to understand the causes of early mortality and optimize the benefits of this therapy.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of baseline obesity on procedural complications, AF recurrence, and symptoms following catheter ablation. The results showed that major procedural complications were low in all BMI groups. After 3 years of follow-up, Class III obesity patients had the highest AF recurrence rate, while Class I, normal weight, and overweight patients had lower recurrence rates. The baseline symptom severity score was highest in Class III obesity patients and lowest in normal weight patients. Catheter ablation resulted in significant improvement in symptoms and AF burden regardless of BMI.
