Kefir, a fermented dairy product, has been shown to improve exercise performance, reduce fatigue, and accelerate recovery in previous studies. The supplementation with SYNKEFIR™ for 28 days significantly increased the exercise time to exhaustion, reduced lactate levels, and did not cause any adverse reactions in the participants.
Kefir is an acidic, carbonated, and fermented dairy product produced by fermenting milk with kefir grains. The Lactobacillus species constitutes an important part of kefir grains. In a previous animal study, kefir effectively improved exercise performance and had anti-fatigue effects. The purpose of this research was to explore the benefits of applying kefir to improve exercise performance, reduce fatigue, and improve physiological adaptability in humans. The test used a double-blind crossover design and supplementation for 28 days. Sixteen 20-30 year-old subjects were divided into two groups in a balanced order according to each individual's initial maximal oxygen uptake and were assigned to receive a placebo (equal flavor, equal calories, 20 g/day) or SYNKEFIR (TM) (20 g/day) every morning. After the intervention, there were 28 days of wash-out, during which time the subjects did not receive further interventions. After supplementation with SYNKEFIR (TM), the exercise time to exhaustion was significantly greater than that before ingestion (p = 0.0001) and higher than that in the Placebo group by 1.29-fold (p = 0.0004). In addition, compared with the Placebo group, the SYNKEFIR (TM) administration group had significantly lower lactate levels in the exercise and recovery (p < 0.05). However, no significant difference was observed in the changes in the gut microbiota. Although no significant changes in body composition were found, SYNKEFIR (TM) did not cause adverse reactions or harm to the participants' bodies. In summary, 28 days of supplementation with SYNKEFIR (TM) significantly improved exercise performance, reduced the production of lactic acid after exercise, and accelerated recovery while also not causing any adverse reactions.

Persistent TLR4 Activation Promotes Hepatocellular Carcinoma Growth through Positive Feedback Regulation by LIN28A/Let-7g miRNA

I-Ting Chen, An-Chieh Cheng, Yi-Ting Liu, Chieh Yan, Yi-Chen Cheng, Chiung-Fang Chang, Ping-Hui Tseng

Summary: Chronic inflammation caused by liver damage or infection plays a crucial role in the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). TLR4 activation has been linked to HCC tumorigenesis, and high TLR4 expression in HCC is associated with poor prognosis. This study explores the molecular mechanism behind the elevated TLR4 expression in HCC in response to chronic inflammation. The results show that TLR4 and proinflammatory cytokines are positively correlated in human HCC samples. The LIN28/let-7 miRNA axis is identified as a downstream effector of the TLR4 signaling pathway in HCC. Additionally, the study reveals a positive correlation between TLR4 and LIN28A mRNA, and a negative correlation between TLR4 and let-7g miRNA. The findings suggest that let-7g miRNA can inhibit TLR4 mRNA expression by targeting its 3'UTR. The study also demonstrates the growth and survival advantages provided by TLR4 activation in HCC cells, promoting tumorigenesis.

Effects of Acute Aquatic High-Intensity Intermittent Exercise on Blood Pressure and Arterial Stiffness in Postmenopausal Women with Different ACE Genotypes

Wen-Sheng Zhou, Ai-Lun Yang, Chiao-Nan Chen, Nai-Wen Kan, Joanna Ting-Hui Kuo, Lee-Hwa Chen, Kuei-Yu Chien

Summary: The study investigated the effects of acute aquatic high-intensity intermittent jumping on postmenopausal women with different ACE genotypes. The results showed that postmenopausal women with the DD genotype had a significantly higher increase in SBP post-exercise compared to those with II/ID genotype. This suggests that aquatic exercise programs may have better effects in decreasing blood pressure in postmenopausal women with II/ID genotype.

Summary: Eccentric contraction can lead to muscle damage and inflammation, reducing muscle efficiency. Resveratrol has anti-inflammatory effects in muscles, promotes muscle repair, and improves exercise performance after contusion recovery. However, its effects on sports injuries caused by eccentric contraction are unknown. Thus, this study investigated the effects of resveratrol on inflammation and energy metabolism.

The Relationship between the Glenohumeral Joint Internal Rotation Deficit and the Trunk Compensation Movement in Baseball Pitchers

Shih-Chung Cheng, Ting-Yu Wan, Chun-Hao Chang

Summary: In this study, it was discovered that pitchers with GIRD show greater upper trunk rotation towards the non-dominant side during pitching, compared to non-GIRD pitchers. Additionally, pitchers with GIRD also exhibited smaller total rotation of the pivot leg compared to pitchers without GIRD. Future studies could explore the relationship between GIRD and lower limb joint injuries through longitudinal research.
