Summary: The polysaccharides found in longan pulp have immunomodulatory effects, affecting the production of various immune response factors and inhibiting inflammatory responses. Different responses were observed depending on the molecular weight of the glucans, suggesting a potential role in immune regulatory pathways.

Summary: The study found that incorporating dried longan seeds into longan wine significantly increased its antioxidant activities. Different yeast strains had varying degrees of antioxidant activities, while fermentation temperature and initial soluble solids had little effect on inhibiting reactive species. Dominant volatile compounds affected the antioxidant activities of longan wine produced with seeds.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the transcriptomic changes in longan reciprocal pollination combinations showing unilateral cross incompatibility (UCI). Our results revealed differential regulation of genes associated with jasmonic acid biosynthesis and signaling, pollen tube growth, cell wall modification, starch and sucrose biosynthesis, and protein processing in endoplasmic reticulum pathways between the two combinations.

Summary: A genome-wide analysis of longan miRNA genes was conducted, and 80 miRNA precursors (pre-miRNA) were predicted. Full-length cDNA sequences of 13 longan primary miRNAs (pri-miRNAs) were amplified by RLM-RACE and SMART-RACE, revealing multiple transcription start sites (TSSs) and polymorphic downstream pre-miRNAs. Analysis of the longan miRNA gene promoter elements indicated the presence of light-responsive, stress-responsive, and hormone-responsive elements. Quantitative real-time PCR assay elucidated potential spatial and temporal expression patterns of longan pre-miRNAs during somatic embryogenesis and in different longan organs/tissues.

Summary: This study compared differentially expressed miRNAs (DEmiRNAs) and their target genes between a continuous flowering cultivar and a unique cultivar that only blossoms once. The study identified several miRNAs and target genes associated with the continuous flowering trait, as well as critical regulatory pathways and flowering-related genes. Furthermore, the study discovered miRNAs that may play vital roles in flower regulation in longan.

Summary: Several pretreatment methods, including sodium chloride steeping, hot blanching, and freeze-thawing, were used to improve the physicochemical properties of dried longan pulps. The results showed that these methods reduced moisture content, increased hardness, and decreased browning in dried longan pulps. Ultrasound and microwave pretreatment methods increased phenolic contents and antioxidant capacity. The use of hot blanching before hot air drying was recommended to improve efficiency and quality.

Summary: This study analyzed the molecular mechanisms of floral induction in longan using transcriptome sequencing. The results showed the significance of starch and sucrose metabolic, circadian rhythms, and plant hormone signal transduction pathways in floral induction. The analysis of weighted gene co-expression network and expression pattern provided insights into the specific transcriptional characteristics and co-expressed gene regulatory network during floral induction. Key DEmRNAs and DElncRNAs were identified. A hypothetical model of regulatory pathways and key genes and lncRNAs during floral bud induction in longan was proposed.

Summary: A combination of longan peel extract, vitamin E, and ascorbyl palmitate showed synergistic effects against lipid oxidation in refined tuna oil, significantly increasing induction period and decreasing peroxide value, conjugated dienes, and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances. This combination also maintained levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids comparable to a synthetic antioxidant and resulted in a synergistic decrease of free radicals in the oil, enhancing the protective effects against lipid oxidation.

Summary: The on-tree preservation of longan fruits may lead to reduced sugar content, sweetness, and quality due to a rapid conversion of sucrose to hexose and consumption of hexose in the pulp. Research suggests that the up-regulated glycolysis, fermentation, TCA, and energy metabolism pathways may promote sucrose decomposition and sugar receding in longan pulp.

Summary: This study evaluated the biological activities of black Dimocarpus longan Lour. seed extracts and successfully developed a lamellar liquid crystal (LLC) formulation. The ethyl acetate extract exhibited the strongest inhibitory activities against matrix metalloproteinase-1 and hyaluronidase. Gallic acid was identified as the main compound responsible for the biological activities of the extract. The LLC formulation containing the extract showed good stability and crystallinity.

Summary: LP4, a novel immunomodulatory polysaccharide with a molecular weight of 6.31 x 10(4) g/mol, was extracted from fresh longan pulp. It can activate macrophages mainly through the TLR2 and TLR4-induced PI3K/AKT and MyD88/TRAF6 pathways, leading to increased cytokine production.
