Wear and EBSD studies on (SiC/NiTi) reinforced Al7075 composite

This work attempts to expand the possibility of developing SiC/NiTi reinforced Al7075 composite for obtaining superior wear resistance. For homogenous embedding of reinforcements into the matrix, a high-pressure ultrasonic-assisted squeeze casting was used. The cross-sectional morphology was characterized by Electron Backscattered Diffraction (EBSD) analysis and it was found that the majority of the grains were arranged dominantly in < 1 1 1 > orientation. To understand the influence of texture in wear resistance property, the scratch test was performed. The intender was allowed to slide in parallel and perpendicular directions to the < 1 1 1 > textured grains. Tribological results revealed negligible wear anisotropy in the fabricated component. However, wear resistance was exceptionally higher in the sliding direction perpendicular to the < 1 1 1 > textured grains. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
