Summary: A novel lanthanum-modified-chitosan-attapulgite composite was prepared and characterized for efficient phosphate adsorption in water. The adsorption properties were investigated through kinetics, isotherms, and thermodynamics. The adsorbent showed excellent stability within a pH range of 4-10 and was not significantly influenced by co-existing substances. Chemisorption was the main mechanism for phosphate adsorption. The maximum adsorption capacity of the adsorbent was 102.90 mg/g, higher than other La-based adsorbents. The adsorption process was spontaneous, exothermic, and disordered. The adsorbent exhibited excellent effectiveness in real wastewater.

Summary: In this study, a new core-shell composite (GCS@LDH) was successfully prepared for nitrate removal. The composite had a larger specific surface area and improved adsorption effect through synergistic effect. The adsorption mechanism of nitrate on the composite was confirmed by experiment and characterization analysis. The adsorption kinetics, isotherm, thermodynamics and reusability of the composite were also discussed.

Summary: This research successfully enhanced the phosphate adsorption capacity of Montmorillonite clay by incorporating iron-loaded crosslinked chitosan into its interlayer lattice space. The synthesized Fe-CS-MT composite showed efficient phosphate removal from aqueous media, following Pseudo-second-order kinetic and Freundlich isotherm models. Various analytical tools confirmed the endothermic and spontaneous nature of the phosphate adsorption process on Fe-CS-MT, presenting an eco-friendly adsorbent for phosphate removal in natural conditions.

Summary: The presence of emerging pollutants like PO43- and NO3- in water bodies has raised global concerns about their impact on water bodies and human health. ACWNS, a novel adsorbent, was found to effectively remove phosphate and nitrate, showing exothermic and spontaneous adsorption. The adsorption mechanism is attributed to electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonding, with ACWNS demonstrating a higher attraction towards the ions.

Summary: A Fe-doped blended membrane (CS-Fe-PVA) was prepared and used as an adsorbent for phosphate removal. The CS-Fe-PVA exhibited high stability and improved adsorption capacity in acidic medium due to the presence of Fe3+ in the membrane. The Langmuir model fit the equilibrium data well, while the adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Thermodynamic studies confirmed the spontaneous and exothermic nature of the adsorption process. The coordination process was identified as the major reaction mechanism for phosphate uptake onto CS-Fe-PVA.

Summary: Crosslinking affects the mechanical behavior and tissue metabolism of collagen-based tissues. Aging and diabetes alter the crosslinking type and density, thus changing tissue properties. High-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking and advanced-glycation end-products result in uniform deformation under daily activity, while low-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking does not. High-connectivity model displays more sliding, while AGEs induce instability in structures near the binding sites.

Summary: The potential of multi-layer nanoemulsions for improving the cellular uptake, antioxidant activity, and in vitro bioaccessibility of alpha-tocopherol was examined. The results showed that the multi-layer nanoemulsions significantly enhanced the cellular uptake and antioxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol compared to free coumarin 6. Furthermore, the use of chitosan and dextran sulfate as wall materials in the multi-layer nanoemulsions led to even higher cellular uptake, in vitro bioaccessibility, and antioxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol.
