Summary: The study evaluates the German version of the Fear of Diabetes Complications Questionnaire (FDCQ) in people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and type 2 diabetes (T2D). Results show that the FDCQ is a reliable and valid tool for assessing fear of diabetes complications and is associated with diabetes distress and depressive symptoms. It may help identify individuals in need of tailored education and care and monitor treatment effects.

Summary: The study found that negative emotional experience is positively related to diabetes-related distress, while the skill at regulating these emotions is negatively related to diabetes-related distress, with a medium-size relationship between these emotional regulation variables and diabetes-related distress. The data suggest that diabetes-related distress in adults with diabetes is meaningfully linked to negative emotionality and skill at regulating such emotions, with a stronger relationship than perceived psychological stress or diabetes self-care.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of high diabetes distress and associated factors in young adults with youth-onset type 2 diabetes. The findings highlighted the association between high distress and factors such as female sex, high blood sugar levels, anxiety symptoms, and lack of health care coverage. These results are important for informing distress interventions for this medically vulnerable group.

Summary: This study examines the correlations between separation anxiety and depression of caregivers of adult and child epileptic patients according to their relation to the patients. The study found that female caregivers had higher anxiety levels compared to male caregivers. Additionally, caregivers of patients with a shorter illness duration and who were on multiple medications had significantly higher anxiety and separation anxiety levels.

Summary: This study aims to explore the comorbidity clusters and their progression over time in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Using a large dataset of anonymized electronic health records, the researchers identified the 20 most common comorbidity clusters and examined their connections and changes over time. The study reveals both known and unknown associations among T2DM complications.

Summary: This study examines the correlations between separation anxiety and depression among caregivers of epileptic patients, and found that female caregivers had higher anxiety levels compared to male caregivers. Caregivers of patients with short illness duration and taking multiple medications also had higher anxiety and separation anxiety levels. Conclusion: This study provides important insights into the needs of caregivers of epilepsy patients, especially in terms of emotional issues. There is a significant association between epilepsy seizure type and separation anxiety and depression. This is the first study focusing on separation anxiety in caregivers of epileptic patients.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate depression- and anxiety-associated psychological symptoms in patients with empty nose syndrome (ENS) before and after surgical reconstruction, and to compare them with those of control subjects. The results showed that patients with ENS experienced significant improvement in nasal and psychological evaluations after surgery, but both were still significantly greater than those in the control group. Preoperative BDI-II and BAI scores were significant predictors of postoperative residual psychological symptoms.

Summary: This study conducted an individual participant data meta-analysis and found that current psychological interventions offer limited benefit in treating anxiety and depression in people with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, with 83% of patients remaining depressed. More efficacious interventions are urgently needed.

Summary: This study examined the impact of two types of bariatric surgery, SR-RYGB and SG, on psychological health and the influence of pre-existing depressive symptoms on weight loss. The results showed that both surgery types led to similar improvements in psychological health, but SR-RYGB resulted in greater weight loss after 5 years. Patients with pre-existing depressive symptoms achieved similar weight loss as those without symptoms, regardless of the surgery type. These findings confirm the previous research on the positive effects of bariatric surgery on psychosocial functioning.

Summary: The study highlighted a high prevalence of cognitive impairment, depression, and anxiety among elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Indian ethnicity and completion of secondary or tertiary education were significant factors associated with cognitive impairment. Early detection and treatment of diabetes, as well as addressing associated risk factors, are crucial in preventing cognitive decline.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the effects of physical activity (PA), fine particulate matter (PM2.5) air pollution, or their interactions on the initiation, progression, and subsequent mortality of type 2 diabetes (T2D) and mood disorders. The results showed that PA protected against incident T2D and comorbid mood disorders, as well as all-cause mortality. Moderate and vigorous activities further prevented T2D development or mortality among those with depressive/anxious population. PM2.5 was associated with higher risks of developing incident mood disorders, T2D, and further transition to comorbid mood disorders. Physical inactivity and PM2.5 could accelerate the initiation and progression of T2D and mood disorders comorbidity.

Summary: This study conducted a randomized clinical trial to analyze the effects of a high-fiber diet on gut microbiota, serum metabolism, and emotional mood of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The high-fiber diet improved glucose homeostasis, altered serum metabolome, systemic inflammation, and psychiatric comorbidities. The increased abundance of beneficial gut microbes and decreased abundance of opportunistic pathogens revealed the positive impact of the high-fiber diet on the intestinal microbiota of T2DM patients.
