Summary: This study reports a copper foam coating with photoelectric synergistic responsive ability, which can directionally control droplet transport behavior under double or synergetic stimulation in complex environments. The anisotropic sliding behavior of droplets can be reversibly controlled by remotely switching on and off the photoelectric field. This work provides insights into creating new types of smart slippery surfaces.

Summary: Abeam-steered Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) bidirectional OWC system with user-hosted automatic self-calibrated alignment of the upstream beams has been designed and realized. The system uses stepper motor translators, miniature retro-reflectors, and a novel self-alignment center-of-gravity (CoG) algorithm. The system achieves good accuracy in upstream beam steering within 200 mu m relative to the center of the upstream receiver's aperture within an incident angle of 10 degrees.

Summary: This study introduces SDM-associated technologies into optical wireless communications, proposing the use of incoherent and low-coherence spatial modes for reliable optical broadcasting while demonstrating reconfigurable optical beam steering and point-to-multi-point communications. Cost-efficient components like MM-VCSEL and ASE noise source are utilized for generating incoherent and low-coherence spatial modes.

Summary: In this study, Bi-doped ZnO nanoarray was successfully prepared to enhance the photoelectrochemical performance of ZnO as a photoanode. Analysis showed that when the doping concentration was 5%, the fluorescence intensity was the lowest, corresponding to the lowest carrier recombination rate and the best photoelectric catalytic effect.

Summary: Audio playbacks are commonly used in vocal communication research, but their low directionality makes it difficult to control the exposure of the audience to the stimuli. Parametric speakers provide a solution by using ultrasonic carrier waves to transmit directional audible signals. Our field test of a commercial parametric speaker showed that it is highly directional, but it had a significant impact on the acoustic structure of meerkat calls and had difficulty reproducing low frequencies reliably. The playback experiments elicited weakened behavioral responses, indicating the potential importance of social facilitation in initiating mobbing events in meerkats.

Summary: This paper investigates a dual-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) aided communication system to improve the security of the communication between ground devices and UAVs. By jointly optimizing the UAV trajectory and sender transmit power, the worst-case average secrecy rate is maximized. Experimental results demonstrate that this scheme can enhance the communication security.

Summary: The present study implemented a novel strategy using periodic bi-directional tool rotation (PBTR) with tungsten carbide helical drill to improve the electrochemical discharge machining (ECDM) of hard and brittle materials like borosilicate glass. It was found that PBTR showed better electrolyte supply to the tool tip and resulted in improved material removal rate, depth of machining, and circularity, while decreasing heat-affected zone, radial overcut, and taper of the machined hole.

Summary: In this study, a new deep learning network called IE-Bi-LSTM was proposed to accurately predict tool wear. The IE-Bi-LSTM utilizes an informer encoder and bi-directional long short-term memory to capture global connections and extract long feature sequences from multichannel sensors. Compared to CNN and RNN, this model achieves remote feature extraction and parallel computation of long-sequence-dependent features. The effectiveness of the model was demonstrated through experiments using the PHM2010 basic dataset after data augmentation and hyperparameter tweaking.

Summary: Clean energy is urgently needed as a solution to the depletion of fossil fuel resources and increasing carbon emissions. The study investigates the flow-induced vibration and energy harvesting performance of a cylinder with attached fins. Four different configurations were tested and compared, and a bi-directional flow-energy harvester was implemented by attaching both windward and leeward fins to the cylinder. The results showed that this harvester achieved higher vibration amplitudes and had a broader velocity range compared to a plain cylinder.

Summary: This paper proposes a co-clustering framework based on a matrix formulation of the vMF model, which can handle text co-clustering more flexibly and incorporate semantic relationships and similarities between words and documents, thus introducing a bidirectional multiplicative regularization to better encapsulate the underlying text data structure. Experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of this approach in terms of clustering results and co-cluster topic coherence compared to baseline and competitive methods.

Summary: This paper presents the principle, design, and analysis of a bi-directional gated ring oscillator (BDGRO) time integrator for time-based signal processing. The time integrator features full compatibility with technology, rapid integration, low power consumption, a virtually unlimited dynamic range, built-in dynamic element matching, and self-digitization. A detailed analysis of the impact of the imperfections of the time integrator including nonlinearity, skew, supply voltage noise, device noise, and metastability-induced gating errors is provided, supported with simulation results. The time integrator is designed in a TSMC 130 nm 1.2 V CMOS technology and analyzed using Virtuoso/Spectre with BSIM3 device models. Time integration is confirmed using simulation results in both time and frequency domains. The time integrator exhibits a clean spectrum without noticeable harmonics and consumes 0.25 mW with a gain of 15.48 dB at 20 MS/s.
