Complexes [CoLn][B10H10], where L = H2O, n = 6; L = N2H4, n = 3, have been synthesized and characterized. The possibility of their use as precursors for the synthesis of binary cobalt(II) borides has been shown. Cobalt(II) borides have been obtained by thermal reduction of precursor complexes in an inert atmosphere at 650 and 900 degrees C. The purity and homogeneity of the precursors and their reduction products have been determined by elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction, and IR spectroscopy; magnetochemistry of precursors and their annealing products has been studied. The morphology of the final products has been studied. It has been found that the reduction products are structured oxide-boride and nitride-boride phases. The magnetochemical study of the phases showed a significant difference in their magnetic behavior.

Svetlana E. Korolenko, Alexey S. Kubasov, Nadezhda A. Khan, Lyudmila Goeva, Anatoliy S. Burlov, Lyudmila N. Divaeva, Elena A. Malinina, Varvara V. Avdeeva, Konstantin Yu Zhizhin, Nikolay T. Kuznetsov

Summary: In this study, the complexation of zinc(II) and cadmium(II) with the dodecahydrido-closo-dodecaborate anion [B12H12](2-) in the presence of benzimidazole ligands L-1 and L-2 was investigated. The resulting compounds were characterized and the influence of the metal nature on their composition and structure was determined. Tris-chelate zinc(II) complexes with the [B12H12](2-) anion were isolated, while mixed-ligand complexes with 3c2e (CdHB) bonds between the [B12H12](2-) anion and the cadmium atom were obtained for the first time.

Aerogel-Based Single-Ion Magnets: A Case Study of a Cobalt(II) Complex Immobilized in Silica

Sergey Yu. Kottsov, Maxim A. Shmelev, Alexander E. Baranchikov, Mikhail A. Kiskin, Alim U. Sharipov, Nikolay N. Efimov, Irina K. Rubtsova, Stanislav A. Nikolaevskii, Gennady P. Kopitsa, Tamara V. Khamova, Ilya V. Roslyakov, Igor L. Eremenko, Vladimir K. Ivanov

Summary: The first aerogel-based single-ion magnets were synthesized by immobilizing cobalt(II) ions in a silica aerogel matrix. The lyogels were synthesized by co-hydrolyzing methyl-trimethoxysilane and N-3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl ethylenediamine, and then the cobalt(II) ions were bound to the silica matrix through the immobilized ethylenediamine groups. The cobalt(II)-modified silica aerogels exhibited slow magnetic relaxation in a nonzero field.

Evgenii Yu. Matveev, Varvara V. Avdeeva, Alexey S. Kubasov, Konstantin Yu. Zhizhin, Elena A. Malinina, Nikolay T. Kuznetsov

Summary: In this study, mixed-ligand lead(II) complexes with 2,2'-bipyridyl and [B10H9OH](2-) or monosubstituted hydroxy-substituted closo-decaborate anions with a pendant hydroxy group were synthesized and characterized by IR and multinuclear NMR spectroscopies. The structures of a binuclear complex [Pb(bipy)(2)[B10H9OH]](2)·CH3CN, a mononuclear complex [Pb(bipy)(2)[B10H9O(CH2)2O(CH2)2OH]]·0.5bipy·CH3CN, and a polymeric complex [Pb(bipy)[B10H9O(CH2)5O(CH2)2OH]](n) were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The coordination polyhedra of lead(II) in these compounds are formed by N atoms from bipy molecules, O atoms of the substituents, and BH groups of the boron cage.

Synthesis of sandwich metallaboranes [M(B11H11)2]3-(M = Cu, Ag) via polyhedral expansion of the closo-undecaborate anion [B11H11]2

Varvara V. Avdeeva, Alexey S. Kubasov, Alexey V. Golubev, Sergey A. Anufriev, Igor B. Sivaev, Svetlana E. Nikiforova, Lyudmila V. Goeva, Elena A. Malinina, Nikolay T. Kuznetsov

Summary: Reactions of [B11H11]2- with copper(I) and silver(I) complexes [(Ph3P)3MX] (M = Cu, X = Cl; M = Ag, X = NO3) led to the formation of metallaboranes (Bu4N)3[commo-M(B11H11)2] instead of M-H-B complexes. The crystal structure of (Bu4N)3[Ag(B11H11)2] was determined using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Hirschfeld surface analysis and DFT calculations were conducted for both metallaboranes [M (B11H11)2]3- (M = Cu, Ag).

Mononuclear mononitrosyl iron complex with 8-mercaptoquinoline. Synthesis, structure and properties

Galina I. Kozub, Denis Korchagin, Alexei I. Dmitriev, Andrey N. Utenyshev, Konstantin Bozhenko, Gennadii Shilov, Nikolay S. Ovanesyan, Olesya Pokidova, Tat'yana A. . Kondrat'eva, Mikhail Zhidkov, Nikolay N. Efimov, Tatiana N. Rudneva, Sergey M. Aldoshin

Summary: A mononuclear iron mononitrosyl complex with two 8-mercaptoquinolate ligands was synthesized by two different methods. The complex can donate NO when dissolved in DMSO and diluted with water. Various spectroscopic techniques were used to study the complex, revealing strong covalent bonding in the Fe(II)-NO· fragment and antiferromagnetic coupling, resulting in a S = 1/2 state for the {FeNO}7-unit. Magnetic property analysis showed that the complex tends to dimerize through intermolecular ferromagnetic exchange coupling via π-stacking in the crystal structure at low temperatures.
