A one-pot chemical route to prepare poly 4, 4′-diaminodiphenyl sulfone-zirconium dioxide/cerium dioxide hybrid nanocomposites for improved capacitance properties

Innovative hybrid composites of poly 4, 4'-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (PDDS)-zirconium dioxide (ZrO2)/cerium dioxide (CeO2) were prepared using a chemical polymerization process. The functional groups were analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy profiles that revealed polymer establishment through N-H group stretching and in-plane bending vibrations about similar to 3454 and similar to 1623 cm(-1), respectively. Scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy images were used to explore the morphology of nano-sized grains in the hybrid composites. The improved electrochemical capacitance behavior was confirmed by cyclic voltammetry curves. Charge-discharge curves were used to determine capacitance values of 229 and 288 F.g(-1) for PDDS-ZrO2 (15 wt%) and PDDS-CeO2 (15 wt%) nanocomposites, respectively. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V.
