Summary: This study aims to explore supervisors' experiences with attending to employees' sick leave and return to work process. The findings suggest that supervisors value their presence at the workplace and the need to obtain information, whilst considering individual and environmental influences on return-to-work and allocating responsibility. However, supervisors find obtaining information and managing responsibility challenging, indicating a possible disproportionate knowledge and responsibility in the return-to-work process.

Summary: The article investigates graded sick leave benefits in Sweden, Finland and Germany, finding both commonalities and differences in institutional background, benefit design and governance. The design and governance variations of the models lead to significant differences in their diffusion, while all schemes face a common set of obstacles and challenges related to stakeholder roles, employer involvement and assessment of residual work ability.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the relationship between reason for consultation, work-related stress, and diagnosis-specific sick leave. The results showed that patients with high work-related stress were more likely to seek care for mental symptoms, sleep disturbance, and fatigue, leading to a mental sick leave diagnosis.

Summary: This study aimed to explore how individuals on long-term sick leave manage societal norms and values related to work, and found that work ethics and social norms influence their self-perceptions and the rehabilitation process. Conflicting personal values with work norms may create internal conflicts and shame, hindering the return to work process in some cases. Acknowledging and addressing the influence of societal norms on identity can contribute to a positive transformation of the sick leave narrative.

Summary: The focus on sustainable employability has gained more importance as the working population ages and the demand for labor exceeds supply, leading to a greater need for continued work at later ages. This highlights the urgency of reducing sick leave. The article discusses the need for sustainable return-to-work trajectories and explores the gaps between theory and practice in recovery and return-to-work, suggesting the importance of sufficient recovery time and a holistic approach.

Summary: This study found that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)-based interventions can reduce the duration of sick leave and facilitate the return to work (RTW) of employees. CBT interventions were effective in managing fatigue, mental illness, and depression, but showed no effects in managing stress, anxiety, and working ability.

Summary: This paper presents a protocol for a cluster randomised controlled trial evaluating a participative risk management intervention for work-related musculoskeletal disorders. The study aims to assess the impact of the intervention on musculoskeletal pain and discomfort, as well as exposure to physical and psychosocial hazards in paramedics over a 12-month period. The effectiveness of the intervention will be rigorously evaluated, and if positive results are found, it may be adopted nationally and internationally in ambulance services.

Summary: A workplace-based multifaceted intervention including participatory ergonomics, workplace exercises, and acupuncture significantly reduced the rate of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and absenteeism among workers. The intervention also led to improvements in pain symptoms for workers with baseline pain and achieved prevention targets for workers without pain. Most workers agreed that the intervention improved the consequences of MSDs.

Summary: The study identified three subgroups with distinctly different sick leave trajectories, one group with consistently low sick leave throughout the treatment, and the other two groups showing similar low sick leave before treatment but increased sick leave at the start of treatment. Female gender and higher age were associated with higher sick leave at the beginning of treatment, while residual depressive symptoms at the end of treatment predicted continued sick leave. The findings suggest the possibility of improving patient outcomes in the future by tailoring treatment based on patient characteristics.

Summary: mRNA-1273 vaccine induces cross-variant antibody responses in individuals with or without pre-existing immunity against SARS-CoV-2, with higher titers of IgG1 and IgA in those with prior infection history. COVID-19 recovered subjects do not show a recall antibody response upon the second vaccine dose, but still maintain higher levels of certain antibodies compared to fully vaccinated naive individuals.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the waiting time since a suspected occupational disease is identified, notified, and recognized in Spain. The findings revealed that the waiting period at the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) accounted for a disproportionately long time. Urgent improvement of the administrative process is needed to reduce the waiting time for the recognition of occupational diseases.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the cost and factors associated with severe hospitalized patients due to influenza in unvaccinated and vaccinated cases. The study found that unvaccinated cases had higher rates of ICU admission and higher medical costs compared to vaccinated cases. The influenza vaccine reduces the costs of hospitalization, and there is a need to focus on recommended vaccination groups.
