Summary: This study investigated the healthcare resource utilization and associated costs for patients with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) in Denmark. The findings showed that TRD patients had a higher risk of psychiatric hospitalization and increased hospital bed days and emergency department (ED) visits compared to non-TRD patients. The costs associated with TRD patients were significantly higher, particularly for psychiatric services.

Summary: This study conducted multivariable analyses using clinical registry data to investigate factors associated with amblyopia treatment success. The findings showed that Black children and children with Medicaid insurance aged 3 to 12 years had poorer treatment outcomes for amblyopia. Therefore, strategies to improve treatment outcomes for these children need to be developed and tested.

Summary: Despite the increasing prevalence rates of preadolescent eating disorders (EDs), the majority of children with these disorders remain untreated. Being Black, multiracial, having unmarried parents, and family economic insecurity were significant predictors for developing EDs. Major depressive disorder was most strongly associated with EDs.

Summary: This study examines whether data from the American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR) represents the national experience with hip and knee arthroplasty in the United States. The findings show that the AJRR data is similar to the National (Nationwide) Inpatient Sample (NIS) data in terms of demographics, hospital volume, and geographic characteristics. This suggests that the AJRR findings can be generalized to a larger US cohort.

Summary: This study investigated inequalities in treatment of colorectal cancer patients in England, finding that those in the most deprived quintile had lower probabilities of being alive and treated during follow-up compared to the least deprived. Persistent inequalities were observed at every stage, with delayed access to treatment and premature death contributing to these disparities.

Summary: There were no significant differences in treatment outcomes between patients with and without food addiction and/or substance use. However, patients with both food addiction and substance use had higher dropout rates. Predictive models showed different factors associated with treatment outcomes for each group, such as lack of persistence, high harm avoidance, and younger age at onset of eating disorders. Overall, regardless of addictive behaviors, patients with eating disorders can benefit from treatment, but it is important to consider the specific predictors for each group.

Summary: Liver transplantation in young patients is becoming more common, and analyzing pre-, intra-, and postoperative events can provide insights into successful outcomes. Infants aged 0 to <3 months and weighing <5 kg require more intensive care, have lower survival rates, and higher complications. Considering liver transplantation before reaching status 1a/1b and aggressive postoperative management may positively impact their outcomes.

Summary: There is currently no nationally comprehensive data set or data collection strategy for eating disorders (EDs) in Australia, which hinders the understanding of treatment outcomes and pathways. InsideOut Institute developed a minimum dataset (MDS) through national consultations and expert feedback, with high consensus on important data items and categories. Medical status and quality of life are identified as the most important outcomes to collect in an MDS.

Summary: Preeclampsia prevalence rates were similar in Sweden and China, but Chinese women had more severe disease and worse pregnancy outcomes. The study suggests a role for lifestyle and health care factors in the associations of obesity and nulliparity with preeclampsia, with potential differences in pathophysiology between populations.
