Summary: In polycarpic plants, the fate of meristems and the proportion of floral induction vary within individuals and between consecutive years. Within-plant competition for carbohydrates and hormonal signaling are key components in determining floral induction. In this study, the effect of architectural and physiological traits on floral induction variability in apple trees was investigated. Cytokinins and gibberellins content in meristems, starch content in leaves, and the proportion of long shoots in tree annual growth were found to contribute to floral induction. The results suggest a common determination model and a genotype-specific profile for flowering behavior.

Summary: The effects of targeting the key gene MdPGT1 involved in phloridzin biosynthesis in apple using conventional transgenesis and CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing were simultaneously assessed. Knockdown lines showed impaired growth and leaf morphology, while genome-edited lines exhibited normal growth despite reduced phloridzin levels. Transcriptomic and metabolic analyses revealed regulated genes involved in phenylpropanoid and flavonoid pathways. Phytohormone profiling demonstrated differential modulation, with increased salicylic and jasmonic acid levels in dwarf lines and no correlation between auxin and ABA with growth phenotype.

Summary: Bagging is a crucial cultivation measure that affects the quality of peach fruit by regulating exposure to light. This study investigated the effects of bagging on the content of phenolic compounds in peach fruit and identified the most sensitive compounds to bagging treatment. The study also explored the regulatory role of bagging on phenolic synthetic-related genes. The results showed that bagging affected the accumulation of different phenolics in different peach cultivars and light intensity played a significant role in the accumulation of anthocyanins and other phenolic substances in peach fruit. Additionally, the expression of structural genes and transcription factors related to phenolic synthesis was regulated by bagging and light conditions. These findings provide a foundation for understanding the regulation mechanism of light on the synthesis of phenolic compounds in peach fruit.
