Summary: An oxidative cyclization reaction of electron-rich alpha-arylhydrazones using phenyliodine bis(trifluoroacetate) (PIFA) catalyst has been achieved. This metal-free and chemoselective transformation provides a practical route for the synthesis of important N-amino-1H-indoles without the need for pre-functionalization of substrates.

Summary: Direct access to polyfluorinated lactams is achieved through Ca(NTf2)(2)-catalyzed reductive amination of biomass-derived keto acids with amines or amino acids with carbonyl derivatives under solvent-free conditions. The versatile protocols possess chemospecificity and good substrate tolerance, enabling the synthesis of five- to eight-membered lactams with diverse functionality and substitution patterns. The robustness of this methodology is demonstrated by its application in the late-stage functionalization of drug molecules.

Summary: Direct access to polyfluorinated lactams is achieved through Ca(NTf2)2 catalysis using either the reductive amination of biomass-derived keto acids with amines or the reductive amination of amino acids with carbonyl derivatives under solvent-free conditions. Both versatile methods exhibit chemospecificity and good substrate tolerance, producing five- to eight-membered lactams with diverse functionality and substitution patterns. The robustness of this methodology is further demonstrated through its application in late-stage functionalization of drug molecules.

Summary: This study presents the first electrochemical approach for the direct synthesis of pyrazolines and pyrazoles from easily accessible hydrazones and dipolarophiles. The method allows for large-scale production and even conversion of highly sensitive alkenes. The use of a biphasic system with sodium iodide as a supporting electrolyte and mediator is cost-effective. Mechanistic insight is provided by the isolation of key intermediates, and the synthesis of a commercial herbicide safener further highlights the significance of this reaction.
