Summary: Traditional Chinese medicine has been practiced for treating human diseases for thousands of years, where one of its advantages is the principle of herb compatibility in TCM formulae, consisting of multiple herbs to achieve maximum treatment effects. A network-based method was proposed to quantify interactions in herb pairs, revealing that frequently used herb pairs tend to affect neighboring proteins in the human interactome. The study provides a network pharmacology framework to explore herb combinations more effectively based on network topology.

Summary: Depression, a highly disabling and lethal mental illness, poses a serious threat to social stability and has become one of the most common disorders worldwide. Panax notoginseng, a traditional Chinese herbal medication, has been used for thousands of years to treat depression and has shown therapeutic effects. Recent research has focused on animal models and pathways influenced by Panax notoginseng, providing empirical evidence for its anti-depressive effects and suggesting new ideas for developing innovative clinical antidepressants with fewer side effects.

Summary: Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a serious complication of diabetes and is the primary cause of end-stage renal disease. Current treatment strategies primarily focus on the inhibition of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and the attainment of blood glucose control. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment with TCM monomers derived from Chinese herbs has shown potential in modulating therapeutic targets and improving outcomes in DKD, offering a promising new direction for future research in the field.

Summary: The use of herbal products as complementary medicine alongside prescription neuropsychiatric drugs is common, but it can lead to herb-drug interactions that may jeopardize the success of pharmacotherapy. This study identified 13 commonly used herbal products that have clinically relevant interactions with prescription drugs used in the management of neuropsychiatric disorders, emphasizing the importance of caution in herb-drug co-medication.

Summary: In India, traditional herbal medicines have been widely used in therapy, but many people lack a proper understanding of the potential interactions between herbal products and allopathic drugs. This study provides a comprehensive understanding of herb-drug interactions in the Indian market and identifies interaction patterns between common herbs and drugs. It reveals that certain categories of drugs, such as antibiotics and oral hypoglycemics, exhibit synergistic interactions with herbs. The study also highlights the importance of CYP450 enzymes in herb-drug interactions.

Summary: Traditional Chinese medicine, specifically the herb Northern Ban Lan, is known for its antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. Researchers have found that extracts from Northern Ban Lan exhibit anti-microtubular activity, with the main bioactive compound identified as glucobrassicin. This compound has the ability to affect microtubules and induce apoptosis in HeLa cells, shedding light on the potential antiviral mechanisms of Northern Ban Lan through disruption of microtubule function utilized by viral pathogens for cell-to-cell spread.
