Summary: This study found that a high-fiber diet can increase the feed intake of sows during lactation. The mechanism behind this effect is believed to be the modulation of gut microbiota. Adding high-fiber feed to the gestation diet can improve the lactational feed intake of sows by increasing the abundance of beneficial bacteria.

Summary: This study investigated the causes of variation in body weight gain and dry matter intake of solid feed in piglets in a multi-suckling system. The results showed that genetic background, birth weight, feed intake, behavior, and skin lesions collectively influenced body weight gain and dry matter intake, but these factors explained only a portion of the variation, indicating a need for further investigation.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impacts of dietary fat levels and FA composition on the mammary transcription of lipogenic genes, de novo fat synthesis, and milk fatty acid output in lactating sows. The results showed that low-fat diet and octanoic acid diet can increase mammary de novo fat synthesis, while low-fat diet or high-fat octanoic acid or fish oil diet can reduce milk fatty acid output.

Summary: The potential effects of oregano essential oil (OEO) on preventing necrotic enteritis (NE) caused by Clostridium perfringens (Cp) in chickens were evaluated in this study. The results showed that OEO had significant effects on increasing body weight gain and reversing the dropped feed intake. OEO also alleviated histopathological changes in the ileums of broiler chickens and had limited effects on tight junction-related gene expressions. OEO is proposed as a promising substitute for antibiotics against NE induced by Cp during poultry production.

Summary: The combination of functional fiber (FF) and every-other-day fasting (EODF) can improve insulin sensitivity and curb weight gain by regulating the composition of gut microbiota. In the study, 6% FF-EODF significantly improved insulin sensitivity in obese mice and increased satiety, energy consumption, weight, and adipose loss during a normal chow diet phase. Additionally, FF supplementation increased the abundance of beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium in the intestine, which was correlated with decreased adiposity and insulin resistance.
