Summary: Long-lived species demonstrate a higher capacity for accurate DNA damage repair, which may help slow down the aging process. The mutagen-induced mutation frequencies are inversely correlated with the maximum life span of different species, with the most significant difference observed between mice and other species.

Summary: The study found that performing splenectomy during open TAAA repair did not result in increased perioperative mortality, but did lead to significantly higher perioperative morbidity and longer hospital stays. Results showed that splenectomy did not have an impact on long-term survival outcomes for patients undergoing TAAA repair.

Summary: The new techniques for repairing thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms using patient-specific 3D-printed graft reconstruction guides have effectively addressed the challenges in positioning and guiding the visceral and segmental arteries. Evaluation based on accuracy, marking time, reproducibility, and surgeon feedback has demonstrated the efficiency and efficacy of these techniques in accurately reconstructing customized grafts.

Summary: In this randomized controlled trial, short- and long-term outcomes of laparoscopic incisional hernia repair were not superior to open surgery. The high recurrence rates, reduced quality of life, and suboptimal satisfaction highlight the need for managing patient expectations and individualized surgical management in the preoperative process.

Summary: This study demonstrates that UNG efficiently excises uracil from RPA-coated ssDNA through functional interaction between the RPA2-WH domain and UNG. This mechanism not only effectively repairs mutagenic base lesions at replication forks, but may also play a role in adaptive immunity.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the acute outcomes of tricuspid transcatheter edge-to-edge repair with the TriClip system in a real-world setting. Successful reduction of tricuspid regurgitation to a moderate degree was achieved, and there were significant improvements in patients' quality of life and functional status at 30 days. This study demonstrates the safety and efficacy of transcatheter tricuspid valve repair for severe tricuspid regurgitation in diverse patient populations.

Summary: The combination of decellularized porcine small intestinal submucosal extracellular matrix (SIS-ECM) with human pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiovascular progenitor cells (hCVPCs), cardiomyocytes (hCMs), or a combination of both, showed better therapeutic effects in the repair of infarcted hearts compared to the use of SIS alone. Dual seeding of hCVPCs and hCMs in the SIS-ECM resulted in synergistic effects in cardiac repair, improving cardiac function, structure, engraftment, and cardiomyocyte proliferation.

Summary: This study explores the application of bio-based repair materials in crack repair and patch repair methods for concrete. The use of Bacillus subtilis for crack repair shows improved corrosion resistance and self-healing efficiency due to electro-chemical reactions. Additionally, alginate-based self-healing materials are developed to improve water resistance in cracked mortar specimens, sealing the cracks effectively.

Summary: COVID-19 was declared a global public health emergency and pandemic in 2020, with over 125 million confirmed cases and 2.7 million deaths worldwide as of March 2021. The SARS-CoV-2 virus causing COVID-19 infects host cells by binding its spike protein to the ACE2 receptor, which is also found in oral mucosa cells. Maackia amurensis seed lectin (MASL) has shown potential as an antiviral agent by targeting the ACE2 receptor, reducing ACE2 expression and glycosylation, inhibiting SARS-CoV-2 spike protein binding, and decreasing inflammation in oral epithelial cells and kidney epithelial cells.

Summary: The study applied Bayesian modeling to identify chemical tools and drug discovery entities for drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections, leading to the discovery of the active quinoline JSF-3151 and investigation of its intrabacterial transformation mechanism. Resistance mechanisms involving increased expression of a lipocalin protein and loss of function of an azoreductase in S. aureus were identified and validated, offering insights for developing therapeutic regimens for drug-resistant S. aureus.
