Summary: This study successfully synthesized six pregnenolone selenocyanoalkylamide derivatives and demonstrated their promising antitumor and antibacterial activities in vitro. Compounds 4b-4f showed strong inhibitory activity against cancer cells, especially breast, ovarian, and cervical cancer cell lines that closely related to hormone expression levels. Compound 4f inhibited tumor cell proliferation primarily through the induction of programmed apoptosis. Zebafish test results showed significant inhibitory activity of compound 4d against MCF-7 cell xenografts. These compounds may hold promise as novel antitumor and antimicrobial agents for further study.

Summary: A series of novel 21E-arylidene-4-azapregn-5-ene steroids were successfully designed and synthesized. Their antiproliferative activity in four different cell lines was evaluated. Among them, the 21E-(pyridin-3-yl)methylidene derivative showed significant cytotoxic activity in hormone-dependent cells LNCaP and T47-D. The steroid 21E-p-nitrophenylidene-4azapregn-5-ene exhibited the highest potency in androgen-independent cells PC-3. Further biological studies on T47-D and LNCaP cells revealed that the azasteroid led to apoptotic death in T47-D cells. Molecular docking studies showed that the compounds had higher affinity for 5 alpha-reductase type 2 and estrogen receptor alpha.

Summary: The study shows that the R-TiO2(100)-(1 x 1) surface exhibits high reactivity and selectivity for aldol condensation of unbranched aldehydes at room temperature. The low energy barriers for enolization and dehydration reactions, along with stable adsorption of intermediates, contribute to the surface's efficiency in forming crotonaldehyde. The exclusive selectivity of (E)-crotonaldehyde formation is attributed to the adsorption configuration of CH3CHO and surface structure of R-TiO2(100)(1 x 1).

Summary: Substituted pyrazole derivatives, as nitrogen-containing five-membered heterocyclic structural units, exhibit a wide range of pharmacological activities, especially the 2-pyrazolines known as 4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazoles. Studies since 2010 have shown that 2-pyrazoline derivatives have potent anti-cancer activities, which could provide important pharmacophore clues for the discovery of new anti-cancer agents. This review covers literature-reported pyrazoline derivatives from 2010 to 2019 and aims to establish the relationship between anticancer activities variation and different substituents introduced into a 2-pyrazoline core.

Summary: A novel multi-component reaction was developed for the synthesis of diverse spiro-imidazo pyridine-indene derivatives. The reaction involved heterocyclic ketene aminals reacting with bindone, using malononitrile as a promoter or as one of the precursors. The convenient one-pot operation, high substrate diversity, and presence of active sites in the synthesized products are attractive features of this approach.

Summary: Chalcones, a type of molecule that can be easily synthesized through aldol condensation, lacks standard procedures and often yields low purity and low yields. By comparing aldol condensation and Wittig reaction, the improved procedure of Wittig reaction shows high yield and excellent purity, providing a novel method for the synthesis of chalcones.

Summary: A transition metal-free aldol condensation/[1+2+3] annulation reaction has been developed for the general synthesis of azafluoranthenes, enabling the formation of three new bonds and two rings in a single operation. This methodology can also be used to construct chromeno[4,3-c]pyridines and benzo[c][2,6]naphthyridines in moderate yields.
