Summary: Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a non-toxic biosynthetic polymer with hydrophilic properties. In this study, high-performance composite materials were obtained by cross-linking PVA with aldehyde-functionalized polysulfone (mPSF) precursor and incorporating modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes (mMWCNTs) with hydrophilic groups. The properties of the composites were compared with those based on PVA and the same fillers, and it was found that the polymeric matrix has an influence on the composite properties. The composites prepared in this way have potential applications in water purification or blood-filtration materials.

Summary: In this study, hydrophilic poly (ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol) (EVOH) and hydrophobic polysulfone (PSF) were blended together using polyethylene glycol (PEG) as a hydrophilic additive and compatibilizer, which resulted in ultrafiltration (UF) membranes with high porosity and antifouling properties. The optimal PEG content for blending with PSF/EVOH was found to be 20 wt%. The blended membranes exhibited improved miscibility, pure water permeance, and antifouling properties, making them suitable for wastewater treatment.

Summary: The study focuses on the fabrication and evaluation of blended membranes composed of polysulfone and cellulose triacetate for CO2/CH4 separation. The results show that the dense, defect-free membranes exhibit promising performance in terms of CO2 selectivity and permeability, with a significant improvement over the pristine membranes. Moreover, the blended membranes also demonstrate a higher tensile strength compared to the pure cellulose triacetate membrane.

Summary: This study reports the development of a polyacrylonitrile/polyvinylpyrrolidone blend nanofiber filter media for capturing particulate matter in air. The effect of polymer blending on the filtration performance was investigated using density functional theory calculations. The PAN/PVP (6:2) filter exhibited high efficiency and low air pressure resistance. The nanofiber membranes maintained outstanding filtration under different temperature and humidity conditions.

Summary: This study successfully obtained two kinds of sulfonated hyaluronic acid (S-HA) with higher sulfur content. Through a series of cell experiments, it was found that the S-HA with higher sulfur content not only possessed stronger ability in promoting endothelial cell growth and migration, regulating smooth muscle cell phenotype, but also had stronger anti-inflammatory function. Furthermore, all the S-HA molecules are highly compatible with blood.

Summary: By adding PVP to polysulfone membranes, the operational pressure during batik wastewater treatment was successfully reduced, with high removal efficiencies observed for COD, TDS, and conductivity in the experiment. The addition of PVP also enhanced the antifouling performance of the membranes, with PSf/PVP 0.25 demonstrating the best antifouling capabilities.

Summary: In this study, polysulfone (PSF), sulfonated polysulfone (SPSF), and sulfonated polysulfone/dextran (SPSF/GLU) membranes were successfully fabricated for LDL adsorption. The SPSF/GLU membrane exhibited high resistance to protein adsorption and a similar adsorption capacity to PSF. The SPSF membrane showed excellent selective affinity for LDL in single and binary protein solutions, suggesting potential applications in LDL removal.
