Summary: Internal feedback of nutrients may hinder the improvement of lake water quality. A parsimonious and mechanistic framework is proposed to model the lag times of phosphorus-enriched lakes' recovery. The approach considers phosphorus storage in benthic sediments and assumes first-order kinetics in a two-compartment system. Bayesian parameter modeling and sediment phosphorus release rates are used to estimate key parameters. Mean lag times to 50% and 75% declines in water column phosphorus concentration are estimated to be 13.1 and 39.0 years respectively across over 70,000 lentic water bodies in the continental United States.

Summary: In this paper, the authors investigate the synchronization behavior of laminar chaos and discover different synchronization modes depending on the choice of time delays. Interesting phenomena are observed by introducing parameter mismatches in the frequency and amplitude parts of the time-varying delay. These findings provide insights into the emergent behavior of laminar chaos and time-varying-time-delay systems.

Summary: The study found that the growth of bacterial populations is influenced by the random initial cell number and individual lag times, while the maximum specific growth rate remains constant within each well. The mathematical assumption of using Beta distribution to describe the single cell physiological state provides insights into the patterns of detection times observed in the wells. An estimation procedure based on this assumption allows for explicit expression of expected values of the single cell physiological state.

Summary: With the increasing utilization of medications worldwide, there is a growing opportunity and need for robust studies evaluating drug-cancer associations. Using lag times is an important methodology in such studies. This review discusses the reasons for using lag times, the long latency period of cancer, and practical advice for implementing lag periods.

Summary: This systematic review examined health system interventions aimed at reducing diagnostic and treatment intervals for individuals with head and neck cancer. A total of 37 studies were included, and four types of interventions were identified. There was some evidence that multidisciplinary interventions improved the timeliness of diagnosis and treatment, but long-term effectiveness was lacking. The overall quality of the studies was assessed as either low or moderate.

Summary: This study explores the lagged associations between climate variables and 14 common causes of morbidity and mortality. The results suggest that there are significant lagged effects between different diseases and temperature or rainfall, indicating the importance of considering a biologically plausible and reasonable definition of lag in future environmental epidemiological studies.

Summary: This study revealed the time lag reaction and phased changes in vegetation response to climate change in Southwest China. Considering the time lag effect significantly improved the prediction rates of temperature and precipitation, and the optimal time delay was 0-4 months. The study also found that the best period for synthesizing NDVI annual values was the P-25 period.

Summary: The mortality rate of patients affected with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) has remained stable due to diagnostic delay and poor prognosis. This paper analyzed the diagnostic delay in OSCC and discussed the psychological factors of patients with OSCC, particularly their fear of receiving news about their health. Poor investigation into patients' fears and concerns of dentists was found. The authors suggested increasing awareness and informing patients about OSCC while encouraging experimental studies on patients' fear and professional behaviors in regards to communication about OSCC.
