Summary: This study reassessed familial aggregation of cancer in high-risk Taiwanese multiplex families with NPC cases and found evidence of NPC coaggregation within families, but not a broader familial syndrome involving NPC and other tumors. The study also observed elevated rates of secondary cancers among NPC cases, mostly head and neck and hematopoietic cancers, suggesting radiation treatment effects on subsequent cancer risk.

Summary: The study compared the performance of ePlex respiratory pathogen panel (RPP) and FTD21 multiplex RT-PCR assay, showing differences in sensitivity and specificity. The ePlex RPP is valuable for rapid detection of respiratory viruses, except for the coronavirus family and samples with low pathogen load.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the prevalence and vulnerability factors related to active cybersexuality among teenagers aged between 15 and 17 years in western Normandy. The results revealed that 66% of teenagers engaged in cybersex, with sexting being the most common practice. Factors such as gender, self-esteem, drug use, number of friends on social networks, and daily viewing of pornography were strongly associated with cybersexuality. Highlighting this theme during sexual education classes can help prevent potential risks.

Summary: This study aims to assess the progress of trachoma elimination in Guinea. The study found that the inflammatory trachoma prevalence in Guinea was below the WHO elimination threshold, but the trachomatous trichiasis (TT) prevalence was above it. These survey results provide critical data for evaluating Guinea's achievement of trachoma elimination targets.

Summary: This study investigated the vaping and smoking habits of French adolescents aged 15-16 years. The results showed that less than half of adolescents had experimented with e-cigarettes and smoked tobacco, and most of them did not continue using. Therefore, the impact of vaping on smoking initiation was rather marginal.

Summary: The study found that the use of protease inhibitor (PI) and non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) based regimens did not show significant association with adverse pregnancy outcomes, except for nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) combinations. The number of integrase inhibitor (INI)-based combinations was too low to draw conclusions from.

Summary: Migrant women in France are at higher risk of inadequate GWG. Non-migrant women with foreign origins had increased risk of excessive GWG. Women born in Sub-Saharan Africa had increased risk of both inadequate and excessive GWG. Women with lower education and women who did not start pregnancy with a normal weight were less likely to gain adequately. Inadequate prenatal care was associated with inadequate GWG only among non-migrant women.

Summary: Undocumented migrants from sub-Saharan Africa in Europe have the highest risk of severe maternal morbidity among migrant subgroups. They are more likely to experience social isolation, linguistic barriers, and poor housing conditions compared to other migrants and non-migrants. Their interaction with maternity care services appears to be sub-optimal.

Summary: Bacterial, viral, and parasitic infections have an impact on pregnant women and their fetuses, but treatment and preventive measures using anti-infective drugs can reduce the transmission of infections. Treatment for certain diseases has been well established, but new approaches are needed for detecting and treating emerging infection routes and diseases. Research on the use of anti-infectives during pregnancy is gaining attention, and systematic studies on the placental transfer and drug surveillance are necessary. Active screening policies and vaccination are the most effective methods for preventing infections.

Summary: This study evaluated pregnant women's perceptions and acceptance of COVID-19 vaccination. The results showed that about one-third of pregnant women were willing to receive the vaccine, with the main reason for refusal being concerns about potential side effects on the fetus. Factors influencing acceptance included age, multiparity, discussion with healthcare providers, and acceptance of the influenza vaccine.

Summary: This study compares baseline characteristics and in-hospital outcomes of patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection with the Delta variant versus the Omicron variant in the emergency department. The results show that patients infected with the Omicron variant were younger, had a lower rate of obesity, were more vaccinated, had a lower rate of dyspnea, and had a higher rate of discharge home from the ED. Compared with Delta, Omicron infection was independently associated with a lower risk for ICU admission, mechanical ventilation, and in-hospital mortality.

Summary: LCMV is a rare congenital infection that can result in high mortality and morbidity. This article reviews the various morphological abnormalities associated with congenital LCMV infection, including brain abnormalities such as chorioretinitis, hydrocephaly, microcephaly, ventriculomegaly, and periventricular calcifications. Other extracerebral abnormalities such as small for gestational age, ascites, cardiomegaly, and anemia were also observed. Antenatal ultrasound examination could detect major cerebral abnormalities in 70% of cases. Congenital LCMV infection is associated with a significant mortality rate and survivors often suffer from severe neurological sequelae.

Summary: Postpartum anal incontinence is common. Follow-up is advised after a first delivery with perineal trauma to reduce the risk of anal incontinence. Endoanal sonography may be considered to evaluate the sphincter and discuss cesarean section for the second delivery. Risk factors for anal continence impairment after the second delivery were the presence of urinary incontinence and the combined use of instruments and episiotomy. Sphincter rupture diagnosed through endoanal sonography was not associated with continence impairment after the second delivery.
