Summary: Studies have found that circular RNAs (circRNAs) play an important role in muscle development and lipid deposition, but their functions and regulatory mechanisms in meat quality are still largely unknown. In this study, the circRNA expression profiles between Huainan pigs and Large White pigs in different stages were compared, and differentially expressed circRNAs were found to be enriched in myogenesis, adipogenesis, and muscle fiber-type transition. The interaction networks between circRNAs and microRNAs were also identified, and these microRNAs were found to be involved in muscle development and lipid metabolism. Two shared differentially expressed circRNAs were selected and validated, and they were suggested to be involved in intramuscular fat deposition. These findings provide a foundation for understanding the role of circRNAs in meat quality.

Summary: High-grain (HG) diets affect the lipid metabolism in the liver and mammary tissue of dairy cows, leading to a decrease in milk fat content and alteration in the fatty acid composition of milk and plasma. HG feeding also increases the concentration of triacylglycerol in muscle and adipose tissue and regulates the expression of genes related to adipogenesis and lipid transport. These findings enhance our understanding of the fatty acid composition of muscle and adipose tissue in dairy cows and the mechanisms by which HG diets impact lipid metabolism.

Summary: Pigs, especially the Mashen and Large White breeds, exhibit diverse transcriptional responses in skeletal muscle under cold stress. The Mashen pigs demonstrate stable physiological homeostasis and a strong immune response, while the Large White pigs primarily regulate heat production and energy metabolism. The PRSS8 gene plays a role in cellular energy metabolism and thermogenesis. These findings provide valuable insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying cold adaptation in pigs.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the molecular characteristics of skeletal muscles in NAFLD and NASH mouse models. The analysis reveals that NAFLD and NASH impair glucose and lipid metabolism and deteriorate functionality in skeletal muscle. Additionally, myokines are identified as potential mediators of the crosstalk between muscles and other metabolic organs in pathological conditions.

Summary: This study aims to explore the potential molecular regulators of backfat tissue development in Ningxiang pigs. It was found that with the development of backfat tissue, adipocyte area increased and adipocyte number decreased. Through gene expression analysis, core genes related to different developmental stages and backfat thickness, adipocyte area were identified. These findings contribute to understand the integrated mechanism underlying backfat tissue development and promote the progress of genetic improvement in Ningxiang pigs.

Summary: Preadipocyte differentiation and its related gene clusters were studied in this research, using preadipocytes isolated from subcutaneous adipose tissue of pigs. Three co-expression modules (blue, magenta, and brown) were identified as critical during preadipocyte differentiation. Angiopoietin-like 4 (ANGPTL4) was identified as a key regulator of preadipocyte differentiation and lipid metabolism.

Summary: In this study, we used RNA-seq and qRT-PCR analysis to identify differentially expressed transcripts in Tribolium castaneum during different developmental stages. Functional enrichment analysis revealed that genes related to DNA replication, cell cycle, and insect hormone biosynthesis were significantly enriched. The transcription of DNA replication and cell cycle genes decreased after hatching but increased after pupation. The study also showed that silencing the ecdysteroid degradation gene CYP18A1 resulted in developmental arrest at the late larval stage. Overall, this research contributes to our understanding of insect growth and development.

Summary: High-altitude adaptation in Tibetan pigs is associated with positively-selected genes, with the BNP gene playing a critical role. The C-1780G polymorphic site in the BNP gene is advantageous for high-altitude adaptation in pigs by upregulating BNP expression. This study provides insights into the mechanism underlying the involvement of the BNP gene in high-altitude adaptation.
