Summary: Cesarean section (CS) delivery is associated with an increased risk of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), but the underlying mechanisms are not well understood. This study found that CS delivery affects colonic inflammation, tight junction markers, and epithelial differentiation markers. The composition of immune cells in the colon also changed after CS delivery. Metabolites and gene expression associated with IBD were differentially expressed in CS cases. This study provides insights into the mechanisms and potential prevention strategies for CS-associated intestinal inflammation.

Summary: The study found that high maternal BMI during antenatal care enrollment increases the risk of cesarean section after induction of labor. The risk of cesarean section was significantly higher in the BMI 25-34.9 group. Parity was identified as the strongest risk factor for cesarean section.

Summary: This study explored the correlations between waist circumference, body mass index, calf circumference, and waist-calf circumference ratio with activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living in Hainan centenarians. The results showed that central and peripheral adiposity had different effects on disability in centenarians, emphasizing the importance of maintaining muscle mass and avoiding central obesity in preventing disability.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of previous cesarean section (CS) on subsequent delivery mode using a large nationwide study population. The results showed that despite the increasing number of cesarean deliveries in the first pregnancy, the absolute numbers and rates for vaginal births after cesarean section (VBAC) have increased towards the end of the study period in Finland. The epidemiology of trial of labor after cesarean section (TOLAC) and VBAC should be better studied worldwide as the rate of cesarean sections continues to rise.

Summary: The study found that mice lacking IRS2 survived in different experimental environments and displayed hippocampus-related behavioral changes, as well as abnormal alterations in energy and nutrient sensors. These results suggest that IRS2 deficiency leads to impairments in brain energy metabolism and thermoregulation, impacting the behavior of young adult male mice.

Summary: The rate of elective cesarean section in Lebanon is high, with 25% of CS deliveries being planned term elective CS. Primary and repeat CS at 37 weeks gestation increased the risk of adverse neonatal outcomes, while there were fewer associations at 38 weeks gestation. Term cesarean deliveries before 39 weeks gestation are associated with respiratory and other adverse neonatal outcomes, and delaying birth to 39 weeks can prevent a significant percentage of these outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the association between socio-demographic and health factors and vitamin D insufficiency in Brazilian children aged 6-59 months. The study found that age, geographical region, household wealth score, and season were associated with vitamin D insufficiency and serum 25(OH)D concentration. Female sex, urban location, and no use of vitamin D supplements were inversely associated with serum 25(OH)D concentration. Overall, vitamin D insufficiency among children aged 6-59 months in Brazil is low and not a significant public health problem.

Summary: This study aimed to characterize the use of micronutrient supplements among Brazilian children aged 6-59 months. The prevalence of supplement use, including single micronutrient supplements, supplements from the Brazilian National Iron Supplementation Program, multivitamin supplements with or without minerals, and multivitamin supplements without minerals, was evaluated using a structured questionnaire. The study found that 54.2% of Brazilian children used micronutrient supplements, with the highest prevalence in the North Region and among children aged 6-23 months. The study also identified the prevalence of specific supplement use, such as iron and vitamin A supplements, and highlighted the importance of these findings for the development of national policies on micronutrient deficiencies.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of minimum dietary diversity (MDD) and consumption of ultra-processed foods in Brazilian children aged 6-23 months, based on sociodemographic variables. The findings revealed the widespread presence of ultra-processed foods and inadequate consumption of diversified foods, particularly among vulnerable populations. This highlights the need to enhance policies and programs to ensure adequate and healthy infant nutrition.

Summary: This study examines cross-breastfeeding and human milk donation practices in Brazil. The results show that among mothers who breastfed their child at least once, 21.1% practiced cross-breastfeeding, while only 4.8% donated human milk to a milk bank. Human milk donation is recommended, while cross-breastfeeding is contraindicated due to the risk of HIV transmission.
