Summary: The neuroprotective effects of micrandilactone C (MC), a compound isolated from the roots of Schisandra chinensis, were demonstrated in animal and cell culture models of Huntington's disease (HD). MC mitigated neurological symptoms and cell death in the striatum, as well as inhibited inflammatory responses and STAT3 activation in microglia. These findings suggest that MC may be a potential therapeutic strategy for HD.

Summary: This study is the first phytochemical investigation of Schisandra tomentella A. C. Smith. A total of 11 lignans and 8 sesquiterpenoids were isolated from the plant. Among them, two undescribed lignans and two new sesquiterpenoids were discovered. The cytotoxicity and multidrug resistance reversal effect of these compounds were evaluated on a multidrug resistance cancer cell line, and the results showed that gomisin M-2 could enhance the effectiveness of adriamycin against the cancer cells.

Summary: Schisandra chinensis is a potential plant for production of nutrient supplements, but it can have allelopathic effects on other plants. The eco-toxicological properties of S. chinensis have not been verified in European ecosystems. In this study, Lemna minor was used as a model aquatic plant to test the impact of S. chinensis extract on the aquatic environment. The extract caused significant limitations in duckweed growth and photosynthetic performance at higher concentrations, and extreme toxicity at the highest concentration of 45 mg/L.

Summary: This study characterizes the biosynthetic logic of Piscibactins and photoxenobactins, metallophores and virulence factors. It shows that the biosynthesis involves heterocyclization domains with different catalytic efficiencies and putative bond cleavage off-loading manners. Spontaneous conversions of the biosynthetic end product also contribute to the production of other products.

Summary: Three unusual sesterterpenoids with novel rearranged colquhounane and tetranorcolquhounane frameworks were isolated from Colquhounia coccinea var. mollis, a medicinal plant from the Lamiaceae family. The structures of these compounds were determined through spectroscopic analysis and quantum chemical calculations. A biomimetic regioselective cyclopropane cleavage reaction was successfully achieved under acidic conditions. Additionally, the immunosuppressive activities of these new sesterterpenoids were evaluated.
