Summary: This study examined the prevalence and factors associated with malnutrition among South Asian adolescents aged 12-15, finding that factors such as age, hygiene behaviors, social support, sedentary behavior, and tobacco use were associated with adolescent malnutrition. The study suggests the presence of a double burden of malnutrition in this population and underscores the need for further research to understand these relationships.

Summary: The field of thoracic surgery is predominantly male-dominated worldwide, including South America. Becoming a thoracic surgeon requires a long training period and a maximum commitment, posing a challenge for female surgeons to balance personal life and work. Despite the scarcity of female role models in the field, the number of women participating in thoracic surgery residency programs in South America is on the rise.

Summary: This paper investigates the association between housing deprivation and urban size in South Asian countries. The study finds that age and higher levels of education are negatively associated with housing deprivation, while a greater number of children is related to higher levels of deprivation. There is a significant negative association between material housing deprivation and urban size, except in the case of India where an inverted-U-shaped relationship is found. This result is robust even with the use of an instrumental variable approach.

Summary: High-quality atmospheric mercury data are rare for South America, especially in its tropical region, leading to high uncertainty in mercury dynamics. Continuous measurements at the Chacaltaya mountain site in Bolivia revealed distinct seasonal patterns of mercury concentrations, with the lowest during the dry season, highest during the biomass burning season, and elevated at the beginning of the wet season.

As the geographical location moves southward, the impact of diapause on the population becomes increasingly significant.

Summary: This study explores the use of counter-messaging to promote acceptance of cultured meat and investigates the determinants of acceptance change. The focus of counter-messaging was found to be insignificant, but such an approach generally enhances consumer acceptance. Acceptance of cultured meat is higher among men, younger consumers, and frequent meat-eaters, and the change in acceptance is influenced by perceived consumer effectiveness and prior knowledge.

Summary: The concern for food safety and quality pushes governments and private sectors to improve consumers' confidence in food systems through certifications and traceability systems. However, little is known about consumers' valuation of food labelling schemes. This study explores Vietnamese consumers' willingness to pay for existing certifications, branding, and traceability labelling schemes and finds that trust is a critical factor shaping their willingness to pay for products bearing VietGAP label.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences, motives, and adherence factors behind men's choices and adherence to a meatless diet. The results showed that scientific research and animal welfare were the main influences and motives. Factors related to people, research, and recipes were reported as important factors for adherence. Age and dietary lifestyle were positive predictors, while living in the EU, skills and hardship barriers, and perceived barriers were negatively associated with long-term adherence. Feeling supported by others played a key role in adhering to the diet over time.

Summary: Since the beginning of the 21st century, there has been a rapid increase in interest in vegan diets worldwide. Despite misconceptions, vegan diets can offer health benefits and advantages over typical Western eating patterns. However, it is important to identify and communicate adequate dietary sources or supplements for specific nutrients focused on in vegan diets. Without supplements or fortified foods, deficiencies in vitamin B12 and other essential nutrients may occur. Ensuring sufficient nutrient status is particularly crucial during certain life stages. Currently, there is a lack of precise and practical vegan nutrition guidelines for health professionals, making it urgent to provide such recommendations based on current evidence to ensure adequate nutrient status in vegans.

Summary: This study explored the associations between meal-related behavior, social engagement factors, satisfaction with food-related life (SWFL), and subjective well-being in Danish older adults living alone. The results showed that home cooking frequency and self-perceived cooking skills were positively associated with SWFL, while commensality was positively associated with SWFL but not with subjective well-being. Loneliness was negatively associated with SWFL and subjective well-being. Satisfaction with food-related life and subjective health status were positively associated with subjective well-being.

Summary: This paper provides a narrative descriptive review of meat consumption in the Netherlands and Belgium from 2010 to 2020. The analysis shows that meat consumption in the Netherlands is relatively stable, while Belgium has experienced a steady decline in meat consumption over the past decade. Both countries face an increase in flexitarians and consumers who intend to reduce their meat consumption. However, there are important differences in research methodologies and sample compositions, making direct comparisons between countries challenging. The findings suggest that attitudes and intentions towards meat reduction are more prevalent than actual dietary behavioral change.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of a virtual reality intervention designed according to instructional design principles on eating behavior. The results showed that the virtual reality intervention significantly decreased individual dietary footprints and increased response efficacy and knowledge compared to the control condition. However, the intervention had no impact on intentions, self-efficacy, or psychological distance, and additional manipulation of normative feedback enhanced self-efficacy.

Summary: This study explored the application of immersive virtual reality (VR) in food product evaluation by comparing the effects of congruent and incongruent VR contexts on consumer acceptance. The results showed that immersive VR induced positive sensations of presence and engagement, and congruent contexts were more effective in enhancing desire and liking for the food product. This highlights the importance of VR as a tool for evaluating contextual factors in new product development.

Summary: Plant-based food (PBF) is growing as an alternative to animal-based food. Europe leads in PBF market size globally. However, the high failure rate for new PBF products poses a challenge. This study aims to identify the key success factors (KSFs) from existing PBF brands. Two online surveys were conducted, collecting KSFs through card sorting and analyzing different brand clusters using cluster analysis. The findings revealed six clusters of KSFs under external and internal factors supporting PBF brand success. Different brand clusters utilized various KSFs, indicating the absence of a one-size-fits-all approach for market success.

Summary: Understanding consumers' food waste behavior is crucial for sustainability. This study segmented consumers based on their food choice motives and investigated factors influencing food waste reduction behavior. The study identified four consumer segments and found that attitude, self-efficacy, and environmental concern significantly influenced behavioral intention and eventually food waste reduction behavior. The study suggests that improving attitudes and environmental concern while enhancing self-efficacy can positively influence food waste reduction behavior.

Summary: This study aims to assess the impacts of climate change on the European beekeeping sector and whether beekeepers have had to adapt their practices accordingly. The results show regional disparities in perceived impacts, with Southern European beekeepers expressing more negative outlooks. Factors such as professionalism, years in beekeeping, floral resources availability, environment, and local policy measures were found to distinguish heavily impacted beekeepers from others.
