Summary: This study aimed to determine the influence of single or multi-walled structures and surface functionalization on pulmonary toxicity of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and to identify the underlying mechanisms. Mice were exposed to different doses of SWCNTs or MWCNTs, and inflammation and DNA damage were assessed. Transcriptomics analysis showed similar responses across all CNTs, with inflammation, cellular stress, metabolism, and DNA damage responses being affected. One pristine SWCNT was found to be the most potent and potentially fibrogenic, warranting further toxicity testing.

Summary: Floating-catalyst CVD (FCCVD) is a highly promising technique for scalable synthesis of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), and the number concentration (NC) of catalyst particles is a crucial parameter in determining the yield of SWCNTs. In this study, a novel FCCVD technique was employed to investigate the effects of catalyst NC on SWCNTs synthesis. Experimental results showed that under carefully chosen reaction conditions, a single catalyst particle can grow multiple SWCNTs.

Summary: In this study, CuI@SWCNT networks were successfully prepared by filling CuI into SWCNTs. CuI@SWCNT networks exhibited good stability and significantly improved current carrying capacity and conductivity compared to SWCNTs. By regulating the Fermi level position of SWCNTs, CuI guest molecules increased carrier concentration, achieving high conductivity and high current carrying capacity. This study offers ideas and solutions for the regulation of high-performance carbon tube networks, which hold great promise for future applications in carbon-based electronic devices.

Summary: Host-guest interaction can alter the properties of composite materials. This study reveals the effect of the host on the electronic structure of guest molecules. Encapsulating polyoxometalates (POMs) in single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) leads to structural changes and electron reconfiguration in POMs, which enhances charge density and accelerates electron and ion transport. This improves the electrochemical performance for sodium ion storage.

Summary: Carbon nanomaterials such as graphene and carbon nanotubes have attracted significant interest due to their extraordinary properties, with the potential to play a key role in future applications. The sensitivity of carbon nanostructures to chemical stimuli allows for enhanced charge propagation capabilities, as seen in the impact of bromine addition on the electrical and thermoelectric properties of single-walled carbon nanotube films. Experimental results show a two orders of magnitude enhancement in thermoelectric capabilities through sonication-assisted introduction of Br2 into the SWCNT network, with computational analyses revealing the dopant's influence on electronic and charge transport properties.

Summary: In this study, high-purity, long, and isolated s-SWCNTs were continuously produced by gas-phase synthesis, maintaining their pristine morphologies. The as-produced s-SWCNTs had a purity of 98% and a mean length of 15.2 mm. The enrichment of s-SWCNTs was found to be mainly caused by overpressure in the reactor and methanol, and the s-SWCNTs exhibited a higher negative charge and a critical role of oxygen-contained species in their synthesis. The field-effect transistors based on s-SWCNTs showed a high mean charge carrier mobility, which was 2.27 times higher than that of transistors fabricated with dispersion-processed SWCNTs. The challenges of synthesis repeatability were discussed, and recommendations for improving reproducibility were provided. This study is an important step towards the scalable production of clean, long, and isolated s-SWCNTs with high purity and narrow bandgap distribution.
