Summary: Zinc was established more than half a century ago as an essential micronutrient for normal human physiology, with around 10% of the human proteome potentially binding zinc. Proteins with zinc-binding domains play key roles in epigenetic modifications, such as DNA methylation and histone modifications, regulating transcription under physiological and pathological conditions. Zinc metalloproteins in epigenetics, mainly zinc metalloenzymes and zinc finger proteins, interact as writers, erasers, readers, editors, and feeders to maintain the epigenome's functioning.

Summary: The chromatin occupancy of Rhino at piRNA source loci in Drosophila germline cells is determined by histone marks and maternally inherited piRNAs. We identified a zinc finger protein called Kipferl as a critical cofactor for Rhino in ovaries, which recruits Rhino to specific loci and stabilizes it on chromatin. In kipferl mutant flies, Rhino is lost from target chromatin loci and accumulates on pericentromeric Satellite arrays, leading to decreased levels of transposon targeting piRNAs and impaired fertility.

Summary: This study investigates the coordination between neurokinin B (NKB) and Cu(ii) in preeclampsia. The results show that the interaction between NKB and Cu(ii) weakens in the presence of SDS, which may serve as a molecular switch for specific Cu(ii) delivery to membrane receptors. Additionally, the calculations based on clinical data suggest a potential toxic role of Cu(ii)NKB in preeclampsia development.

Summary: Zinc is essential for the structure and function of numerous enzymes and transcription factors in the human body. It plays a crucial role in heart development and is associated with various congenital heart defects. Zinc is involved in cell signaling, enzymatic responses, and the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases. However, the relationship between zinc and the cardiovascular system is complex and not fully understood.

Summary: ZNF280A plays a tumor-promoting role in LUAD, with a positive correlation with tumor grade, pathological stage, and lymphatic metastasis, and a negative relationship with patient survival. Its effects on cell proliferation, apoptosis, cell cycle, and cell migration may contribute to the development of LUAD.

Summary: Abnormal hypermethylation of the ZNF334 gene, which downregulates its expression, was detected in CRC tissues. TET1 was identified to be involved in regulating the methylation level of ZNF334. A constructed targeted demethylation system successfully upregulated ZNF334 expression and inhibited CRC growth.

Summary: In this study, a chemically controllable AAV transgene expression technology was validated in vitro using chemical epigenetic modifiers (CEMs). This technology enhances AAV transgene expression by utilizing endogenous epigenetic machinery and can be reversibly controlled. By providing temporal gene expression control, this technology has the potential to increase the safety and efficiency of AAV-based research and therapies.

Summary: A direct photopatterning approach for lead halide perovskite nanocrystals has been introduced, allowing for the creation of patterns through molecular cleavage after photoirradiation. Postpatterning ligand exchange results in increased photoluminescence quantum yields and emission wavelength tunability. The patterned nanocrystal films exhibit photoconductive behavior, indicating good electrical contact between the nanocrystals.

Summary: Plant biological processes are regulated by gene transcriptional regulation, in which transcription factors play a crucial role. DOF (DNA binding with One Finger) is a plant-specific transcription factor family characterized by its single zinc finger structure, and recent studies have shown their vital roles in various biological processes. This article reviews the origin, evolution, protein structure, and functions of DOF members reported in studies to provide directions for future research.

Summary: The study effectively predicts the prognosis of bladder cancer (BC) through ZNF gene signatures, developing corresponding predictive models and nomograms. In terms of exploring treatment options, it was found that low-risk patients are more sensitive to chemotherapy. Analysis of signature genes also identified relevant factors in the tumor microenvironment.

Summary: It is increasingly recognized that very small proteins, called mu-proteins, are ubiquitously found in all species of the three domains of life, and they fulfill important functions. Through in-depth analysis of two C(P)XCG proteins in Haloferax volcanii, it was found that they play pivotal roles in the swarming behavior and biofilm formation of H. volcanii.
