Vertical aligned CuO nanowire arrays were synthesized by a simple and cost-effective thermal oxidation method. They act as cores, radial CuO/ZnO core/shell heterostructure nanowire arrays were fabricated by thermal decomposition. Based upon the core/shell nanowire-based all oxide p-n junction, their photovoltaic performance was investigated. A larger open-circuit voltage of 0.445 V and short-circuit current density of 0.89 mA/cm(2) were obtained. The overall power conversion efficiency is 0.17%. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V.
