PbS and Bi2S3 nanocrystals with well-controlled sizes and shapes were easily produced from molecular precursors (xanthate) in ethylene diamine (en) solution at room temperature. When lead or bismuth ethylxanthate were added into en solution, the precipitates were instantly formed, and subsequently, PbS cubes and flower-like Bi2S3 hierarchical structures were obtained if the mixtures were left still for 5 days under ambient conditions. This work not only provides a facile route to synthesize chalcogenides with well-defined nano- and microstructures in a solution-phase system, but also gives insight into understanding on decomposition behavior of molecular precursors in various solvents. MiR-22-3p in exosomes increases the risk of heart failure after down-regulation of FURIN

Wenlin Lu, Xuhui Liu, Linghui Zhao, Shirong Yan, Qingyun Song, Cao Zou, Xun Li

Summary: This study investigated the role and mechanism of miR-22-3p in heart failure, and found that its overexpression inhibits cell activity and promotes cell apoptosis. MiR-22-3p increases the risk of heart failure damage by negatively regulating FURIN.

Structure-Property Relationship of Cyano-Functionalized Conjugated Polymers for Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production

Xu Chi, Qian Chen, Zhi-An Lan, Xirui Zhang, Xiong Chen, Xinchen Wang

Summary: Conjugated polymers (CPs) have received increasing attention in photocatalysis due to their stability and molecular tunability. In this study, a new efficient cyano (CN) engineering approach was proposed to enhance the photocatalytic performance of CPs. Three CP-based photocatalysts with different CN contents were synthesized to investigate the relationship between CN functionalization and photocatalytic activity. Experimental and theoretical studies revealed that CN functionalization strengthened the donor-acceptor (D-A) interaction, enhanced light absorption, charge separation/transfer efficiency, hydrophilicity of CPs, and facilitated the output of photoinduced electrons from CPs to Pt cocatalyst.

Liangying Hou, Qi Wang, Bei Pan, Rui Li, Yanfei Li, Juanjuan He, Tianzhu Qin, Liujiao Cao, Na Zhang, Changhao Cao, Long Ge, Kehu Yang

Summary: The study aimed to determine the effects of different exercise modalities in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Results showed that various exercise modalities can improve glycemic control in diabetes patients, with supervised exercises being the most effective. Flexibility and balance exercises also have benefits, but the impact on TG levels remains unclear.

Summary: This study conducted a meta-analysis to identify the association between maternal factors and intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR), and found that smoking, primiparity, prepregnancy BMI < 18.5, poor gestational weight gain, pregnancy-induced hypertension, anemia, and hypoproteinemia were associated with IUGR. These findings could contribute to the development of risk prediction models and improve management and education for child-bearing or early pregnant women.

Summary: We report on measurements of sequential Y suppression in Au + Au collisions at RHIC with the STAR detector. The nuclear modification factors (RAA) for Y(1S) and Y(2S) in the 0%-60% centrality class are 0.40 and 0.26, respectively, while the upper limit of the Y(3S) RAA is 0.17. This provides experimental evidence that the Y(3S) is significantly more suppressed than the Y(1S) at RHIC, and the level of suppression for Y(1S) is comparable to that observed at the Large Hadron Collider.

Summary: We report on the production of tritons (t) in Au + Au collisions at midrapidity ( |η| < 0.5) with beam energies of √sNN 7.7-200 GeV. The yield ratio Nt x Np/N2d, which is sensitive to the fluctuation of local neutron density, decreases monotonically with increasing charged-particle multiplicity (dNch/dη) and follows a scaling behavior. Enhancements in the yield ratios are observed in central collisions at 19.6 and 27 GeV, with a combined significance of 4.1 sigma, and are not seen in peripheral collisions or calculations without critical fluctuation. The implications of these results on the QCD phase structure and the production mechanism of light nuclei in heavy-ion collisions are discussed.

Summary: This study presents a low-energy search for the Chiral Magnetic Effect (CME) in Au+Au collisions at RHIC and finds consistency between CME and flow-driven background hypothesis based on the definition of event planes and centrality range. This work opens up a possible roadmap for future CME exploration with high-statistics data from RHIC.

Effect of fixture boundary conditions for low-velocity impact: A focus on composites with different matrix and fibers

Dayou Ma, Mohammad Rezasefat, Joziel Aparecido da Cruz, Sandro Campos Amico, Marco Giglio, Andrea Manes

Summary: The matrix has a significant effect on the impact resistance of composite materials. Replacing a brittle polymer with a more flexible one can improve impact resistance, but it poses challenges to standard testing methods. This study designs a new fixture for testing the low-velocity impact of soft composites and investigates the effect of the fixture on the mechanical performance.
