Summary: An antioxidant cassava starch (AO-ca-starch) was prepared with high catalytic activity for scavenging free radicals and serving as an antioxidant drug. The catalytic activity of AO-ca-starch was significantly higher than that of typical artificial selenoenzymes, exhibiting typical saturation kinetic catalytic behavior. The match of catalytic center and hydrophobic microenvironments played a key role in maintaining the high catalytic activity of AO-ca-starch.

Summary: Selenols react with isocyanates to generate selenocarbamates in good yield under mild conditions, showing high selectivity over competing nucleophilic additions. The selenocarbamates exhibited thiol-peroxidase-like properties, enabling the reduction of hydrogen peroxide at the expense of thiols.

Summary: The efficient syntheses of novel compounds, (Z,Z)-bis(3-amino-3-oxo-1-propenyl) selenides and diselenides, were achieved via nucleophilic addition reactions. The obtained diselenides showed superior glutathione peroxidase-like activity compared to selenides with the same substituents. Structural analysis through X-ray diffraction and Se-77-NMR data confirmed the structures of the products.

Summary: Recently, the loading of polymer-ligand onto the surface of gold nanoparticles as nanozymes has attracted attention. A study reported a method to modulate the peroxidase-mimic catalytic capability of PNIPAM@AuNPs by changing temperature. The presence of glutathione inhibits the generation of oxidized TMB, and the method could be used for the analysis of serum glutathione.

Summary: A method for the synthesis of an amphiphilic aerogel with peroxidase-like activity was developed using poly-(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) as a skeleton and maleic acid (MA) as an auxiliary crosslinker. This method allowed for the exposure of carboxyl and ester groups on the aerogel surface, providing active and binding sites for substrate materials. A colorimetric method for glucose sensing was established using this aerogel as a catalyst. The method showed good linear detection range and detection limits in both buffer system and diluted human serum, and the results were highly consistent with a commercial glucose meter.

Summary: This study identified a class of HCoV inhibitors targeting nsp15, with lead molecule 5h showing strong inhibitory effects on HCoV-229E replication. However, a mutant virus with nsp15 endoribonuclease active site mutation showed reduced sensitivity to 5h. The findings revealed a druggable pocket in the nsp15 hexamer with relevance for anti-coronavirus drug development.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between channel size and ion selectivity by developing a new type of artificial ion channel based on pore-forming helical polymers. The artificial channel exhibits high transport activity and Na+ selectivity, and it transports Na+ ions in a different manner compared to natural Na+ channels. Overall, this research provides crucial insights into ion selectivity in the field of ion channels.

Summary: In this study, a simple supramolecular strategy was adopted to effectively control the tautomerism of ureidopyrimidinone (UPy) moiety and achieve the complete arrangement of enol configuration. The UPy derivatives containing self-complementary quadruple hydrogen bonding interactions could spontaneously self-assemble into well-controlled, self-organized supramolecular nanostructures in both chloroform and water. This study demonstrates the utility and feasibility of multiple hydrogen bonds for directing the self-assembly of small-molecule building blocks in aqueous media, providing a strategy for constructing well-defined and stable supramolecular architectures with chemical functionalities and physical properties as advanced materials for biological applications.

Summary: A straightforward and rational approach was used to construct supramolecular assemblies with ordered nanostructures in a two-dimensional arrangement. By taking advantage of the synergistic effect of multiple non-covalent interactions, the designed molecular monomer had a specific orientation in the self-assembly process, thus achieving two-dimensional control. The strategy of collaborative self-assembly using multiple non-covalent interactions is expected to be extended to the construction of various unique supramolecular 2D materials.
