Summary: The study revealed that estrogen signaling is involved in thymus maturation in European sea bass, with esr2b and gpera playing key roles during medulla maturation. The expression of estrogen receptors in the spleen was low, and estrogen exposure was found to impact the proliferation/migration of specific T cell populations.

Summary: Poly lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) particles can serve as carriers for drugs and vaccine antigens in fishes, and the immune system of common carp recognizes and reacts to PLGA microparticles. PLGA particles can play a dual role as both antigen and drug carriers in fishes.

Summary: This study identified two miRNAs, miR-210 and miR-3570, which negatively regulate host antibacterial immunity in miiuy croaker. These miRNAs inhibit inflammatory cytokine production by targeting RIPK2, thereby modulating the NF-kappa B signaling pathway and playing a regulatory role in bacteria-induced inflammatory response.

Summary: In this study, the muscle TMAO content of 152 teleost fishes from marginal seas of China and the epipelagic zone of the northwest Pacific Ocean was measured. The results showed significant variations in TMAO content among different species, and species played a more important role than environmental factors in driving TMAO accumulation. Additionally, temperature was identified as a key environmental factor affecting the TMAO content of teleost fishes in shallow seas and the epipelagic zone of the deep ocean.

Summary: This study evaluated the impacts of exposure to fluoxetine (FLX) and 17 beta-estradiol (E2) on European sea bass scales and identified the complex disruptive effects of these pollutants on protein synthesis and energy metabolism. The study provides insights into the routes of action and potential biomarkers of pollutant exposure.

Summary: There is growing evidence indicating that lncRNAs act as gene regulators in various biological processes. In this study, a lncRNA called LTCONS4500 was found to be a positive regulator of the immune response in miiuy croaker. It was upregulated by gram-negative bacteria and promoted the expression of inflammatory cytokines. Further investigation revealed that LTCONS4500 interacted with miR-3570-5p to enhance antibacterial immune responses.

Summary: Teleost fish possess a complex assortment of highly specialized immune cells capable of unleashing immune responses, including memory lymphocytes. Specific roles of fish immune cells depend on precise separation of cell types, which may require monoclonal antibodies. Emerging technologies such as fluorescence-activated cell sorting and droplet-based microfluidics show potential in identifying antigen-specific B lymphocytes for fish immunology studies.

Summary: The environment has a significant impact on fish as it affects the microbiome and mucosal immunity, which are crucial for their overall health. However, there is a lack of research on the interaction between the microbiome and mucosal immunity under different environmental conditions. This review summarizes the existing literature on the effects of environmental changes, such as temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH, and photoperiod, on the fish microbiome and mucosal immunity. Understanding the mucosal immunity-microbiome interaction can also enhance aquaculture practices during environmental stress.

Summary: Increasing evidence suggests that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important roles in various biological processes. However, there is little research on the functional roles of lncRNAs in teleost fish. In this study, a novel lncRNA (linc-93.2) was identified in common carp macrophages after exposure to the endocrine disrupting chemical BPA. The results showed that linc-93.2 is involved in the immune and neurological functions of fish.

Summary: This study revealed that acidification of the water environment can cause tissue damage to the head kidney of juvenile L. calcarifer, resulting in significant weakening of immune function. Juvenile L. calcarifer exhibited different coping strategies to different levels of acute acidification stress, but all led to the extensive weakening of head kidney immune function. Through transcriptional analysis, it was found that the response of L. calcarifer head kidney to acidification increased with the severity of acidification level. Additionally, certain immune-related genes were identified to have the most correlation with other genes in the correlation network analysis.

Summary: The integrin family plays important roles in various biological functions and disease pathogenesis. They are multifunctional receptors composed of alpha and beta subunits, binding to various ligands including extracellular matrix proteins. Integrins are found in both vertebrates and invertebrates, and are widely used in genetic and disease research. This paper discusses the phylogenetic analysis of the integrin family among different species, summarizes integrin signaling in teleost fish, and highlights the potential of drug development targeting integrins for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases and brain injury in mammals.
