Summary: The incidence of pancreatic incidentalomas is increasing with the use of advanced imaging techniques, particularly in the general population. Proper management involves accurate characterization using dedicated imaging protocols, followed by tailored diagnosis and subsequent treatment based on the type of lesion.

Summary: This study investigated the expression of p16 in different types of tumors and found that it is often expressed in cancer but largely absent in normal tissues. p16 expression may be useful in diagnosing lipomatous and urothelial tumors. However, the association between p16 expression and HPV infection varies greatly between different organs.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the utility of preoperatively available radiological features and serological biomarkers in choosing an optimal surgical indication for non-functioning pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PanNETs). The combination of hetero/hypo-attenuation and main pancreatic duct involvement accurately predicted high-risk pathological factors. These findings suggest the potential for guiding surgical decisions for non-functioning PanNETs.

Summary: Managing patients with oral potentially malignant disorders is challenging due to the lack of understanding of natural history and validated predictive markers. Evidence-based health promotion is not widely embraced, and research on medical interventions often suffers from methodologic flaws and lack of focus on patient quality of life. Global networks with well-characterized patient populations are needed for better intervention trials.

Summary: The retrospective study analyzed 164 patients who underwent laparoscopic pancreatectomy, showing that laparoscopic spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy group had better postoperative outcomes, including shorter operation time, less blood loss, and lower complication rates. Patients considering laparoscopic central pancreatectomy should proceed with caution.

Summary: The FDA approved pembrolizumab for the treatment of TMB-H solid tumors in adults and children, based on its significant overall response rate and duration in clinical trials. This marks the first FDA approval of a cancer treatment based on TMB, and the fourth based on a biomarker rather than primary site.

Summary: Machine learning models were used to predict malignancy from oral white lesions with satisfactory performance and stability. DeepSurv and RSF were the top-performing models in terms of discrimination and calibration in internal validation. DeepSurv was more stable than RSF in cross-validation, with external validation confirming their utility for discrimination and individual survival estimates.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the survival outcomes of primary cardiac malignant tumors (PMCTs) among African American and Caucasian populations. Although survival rates improved over time for African American patients, overall there were no significant racial differences in survival outcomes. Age at diagnosis, tumor type, disease stage, and chemotherapy were identified as key predictors of survival outcomes.

Summary: Nanomaterials, particularly nanoparticles, play a significant role in cancer theranostics. However, there are obstacles in the clinical translation of nano-based applications, including the efficient targeting of nanomaterials to desired tissues and cells. This review focuses on nanoparticles for cancer detection and treatment, discussing common barriers that limit nanoparticle accumulation in tumors and exploring the physicochemical properties and surface modifications that enhance tumor site accumulation. The review also presents the limitations of current strategies and addresses unresolved questions, concluding with an outlook on future directions in nano-oncology.

Summary: Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent programmed cell death, has been discovered in recent years. It is characterized by the accumulation of lipid reactive oxygen species in cells, leading to oxidative stress and cell death. It plays a pivotal role in normal physiology and the development of various diseases.

Summary: This article presents recent data on the management of pyogenic liver abscess (PLA) and examines the trends over a 50-year period. The study found that PLA patients are older and there is a less pronounced male predominance. The most common underlying cause of PLA is the biliary tract, and the most commonly identified pathogens are Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Streptococcus species. Percutaneous drainage is the most common primary treatment modality. The study also questions the utility of abdominal ultrasound as the initial diagnostic imaging for suspected PLA, suggesting that abdominal computed tomography (CT) is more effective.
