Summary: Recent years have seen significant advancements in the design of organic fluorophores by restricting non-radiative decay pathways. In this study, we investigated benzothiadiazoles as turn-on fluorescent substrates, and by optimizing steric and electronic effects, we achieved improved turn-on dyes with a 136-fold increase in fluorescence over background.

Summary: FeMo6, a polyoxometalate containing Fe3+ and Mo6+, was discovered as an oxidase-mimicking nanoenzyme for the first time, showing catalytic oxidation ability towards o-phenylenediamine and other substrates. A novel sensor for dopamine detection was developed based on the FeMo6-OPD system. The FeMo6@rGO composite enhanced the oxidase-mimic activity of FeMo6, with the FeMo6@rGO (10%) showing the highest activity and fastest response time among known DA oxidase mimics.

Summary: The Naphthalimide-benzothiazole conjugate linked by cinnamonitrile exhibited turn-on fluorescence in the presence of CN- with high selectivity in tetrahydrofuran, and also showed two-mode aggregation-induced emission in THF-H2O mixtures. The sensing mechanism and AIE behavior were analyzed in detail, providing important data for further studies.

Summary: This study successfully achieved high selectivity and sensitivity in detecting cyanide ions in aqueous solution by using a post-synthetically modified metal-organic framework approach. The modified MOF system demonstrated effective recognition of cyanide ions even in the presence of other interfering ions, with a low limit of detection.

Summary: The molecule-like electronic structure of gold nanoclusters provides them with the fascinating property of fluorescence, making them highly promising for biomedical applications. In this study, tyrosine-containing peptide motifs were designed as reducing agents and protecting ligands to synthesize P-AuNCs in a one-step reaction, which allowed for real-time monitoring of the fluorescence evolution. The synthesized P-AuNCs exhibited a quantum yield of approximately 18% and demonstrated excellent performance in temperature and metal ion sensing, as well as cell labeling and imaging. This study presents a useful one-step synthesis strategy for screening peptide motifs to modulate the optical properties of peptide-containing hybrid nanomaterials in real-time.

Summary: The synthesis of pyridylacetonitrile integrated anthracene fluorophores and their stimuli-responsive fluorescence switching controlled by pyridine nitrogen position were reported. The results showed that the position of nitrogen significantly influenced the molecular conformation and packing, which in turn affected the solid-state fluorescence properties.

Summary: Fluorometric sensors based on pyridinic-N-rich carbon dots (NCDs) prepared through microwave-assisted pyrolysis are used as a turn-off fluorescent probe for the sensitive and selective detection of diethyl chlorophosphate (DCP), a nerve agent mimic. The fluorescence quenching effect of NCDs in the presence of DCP is attributed to the inner filter effect (IFE). The limit of detection (LOD) for sensing DCP is found to be 84 μM, and NCDs show low cytotoxicity and can be used for cell imaging.

Summary: In this work, an aldehyde-appended salamo-type optical probe AA-TNS was synthesized for efficient detection of cyanide ions. Spectral experiments showed that the probe exhibited proportional fluorescence response to cyanide ions and followed an induced dehydrogenation sensing mechanism. Theoretical calculation revealed the molecular structure transformation as a potential reason for luminescence. The recyclability of the probe and its ability to distinguish cyanide ions in liquid and solid-state environments were also demonstrated.

Summary: Fluoro- and chloro-alkene mimics of Gly-Pro and Pro-Pro can participate in n ->pi* donation to stabilize PPII conformations, but are poor n.p* acceptors. Proteo-alkene mimics lack significant n ->pi* interactions, leading to unstable PPII-like geometries.

Summary: Forensic science is rapidly advancing in the detection of latent fingerprints. This study compares the natural powder from four medicinal plants to minimize adverse effects on the user's body. It has been found that certain natural powders exhibit fluorescence properties, making latent fingerprints more pronounced on multi-colored surfaces.

Summary: In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in finding better and more efficient ways to detect CN- ions. Most of the anthraquinone-based probes show less fluorescence. This paper presents the design and synthesis of a new anthraquinone-based imine probe with good colorimetric sensing property and fluorescent turn-on behavior toward CN- ion.

Summary: The commercial process of islatravir utilizes biocatalytic cascade reactions to construct the ribose moiety of the molecule with three chiral centers. This process brought analytical challenges in controlling all stereoisomers and process-related compounds in one isolated intermediate, the final drug substance. A chiral LC method was developed to resolve these compounds from islatravir and its minor enantiomer, successfully meeting the requirements of various health authorities.
