Summary: In this study, an efficient asymmetric gamma-arylation method for constructing chiral quaternary arylated butenolide was reported. The method showed high selectivity, good functional group tolerance, and excellent enantioselectivity. Additionally, it allowed for the facile construction of tricyclic tetrahydroindolines and tetrahydroisoquinolinones in one step.

Summary: A carboxylate-directed palladium-catalyzed Mizoroki-Heck alkenylation reaction of gamma,delta-unsaturated carboxylic acids with alkenyl bromides was reported. The carboxylate group effectively chelates to a Pd center, enabling the formation of conjugated 1,3-dienes with high stereoselectivity in the distal alkenylation of electronically unbiased internal alkenes. Additionally, the conjugated 1,3-diene products can be used for various synthetic applications.

Summary: A nickel-catalyzed intermolecular arylcyanation reaction of 8-aminoquinolinyl beta,gamma-unsaturated amides is reported. Diverse beta-cyano gamma-aryl amides with exclusive chemo- and regioselectivity were directly obtained through a three-component reaction. The practicality of this approach was further demonstrated through multigram scale reactions, expanded transformations of the nitrile product, late-stage modification of complex molecules, and direct drug synthesis.

Summary: A rhodium-catalyzed highly enantio- and diaster-eoselective alkenylation reaction of Ay-unsaturated butenolides is reported. The use of a chiral diene ligand enables the synthesis of chiral butyrolactones in high yields with extremely high enantioselectivities and high diastereoselectivities. The key process involves the isomerization of butenolides and subsequent dynamic kinetic resolution.

Summary: This study reports a visible-light-induced iron-catalyzed alpha-alkylation of ketones using allylic and propargylic alcohols as pro-electrophiles. The diaminocyclopentadienone iron tricarbonyl complex acts as a dual-function catalyst by harvesting light and facilitating dehydrogenation and reduction steps. Under this method, gamma,delta-unsaturated ketones can be synthesized at room temperature through borrowing hydrogen. Steric hindrance on the delta-position of the intermediates plays a key role in preventing or reducing competitive 1,6-reduction and favoring the synthesis of non-conjugated enones and ynones.

Summary: In this study, we have developed a copper-catalyzed hydroaminocarbonylation of benzylidenecyclopropanes under relatively mild conditions. A series of gamma,delta-unsaturated amides with a broad range of functional groups were obtained in moderate to good yields. Both dialkyl-substituted and monoalkyl-substituted hydroxylamine derivatives can be applied in this transformation to give the corresponding tertiary and secondary amides successfully.

Summary: A highly efficient asymmetric 1,2-allylation reaction of beta,gamma-unsaturated alpha-ketoesters was achieved using a Bi(OAc)(3)/chiral phosphoric acid catalyst system under mild conditions. Additionally, an asymmetric formal 1,4-allylation reaction was realized through a one-pot process, yielding homoallylic tertiary alcohols and gamma-allyl-alpha-ketoesters with good yields and excellent enantioselectivities. Density functional theory calculations were used to interpret the high enantioselectivity observed in the reactions.

Summary: This study demonstrates an efficient synthetic method for the construction of novel fluorinated γ-amino acid esters by difunctionalization of cyclic ethers at the alpha- and beta-sites. The transformation of a range of cyclic ethers with various amines and ethyl trifluoropyruvate under mild conditions allows for the practical enrichment of the library of fluorinated amino acid derivatives from cost-effective and readily available starting materials.

Summary: A catalytic synthesis of halogenated gamma-butenolides from cyclopropene carboxylic acids was developed using zwitterionic catalysts and N-haloamides as the halogen sources in this study. The catalytic protocol could also be applied to the synthesis of halogenated pyrrolones using cyclopropene amides as the starting materials.

Summary: A nickel-catalyzed reaction was developed for difunctionalizing unactivated gamma,delta-alkenes in ketones with alkenyl triflates and arylboronic esters. The reaction, facilitated by specific ligands and catalysts, demonstrated compatibility with various types of ketones and arylboronate esters, requiring carbonyl coordination for its progress.

Summary: A first iron-catalyzed oxophosphorylation reaction of styrene derivatives with dialkyl H-phosphonates under open air conditions is developed, leading to the formation of a range of previously underexplored α-substituted β-ketophosphonates. Additionally, a convenient one-pot procedure for the direct conversion of styrenes to α,β-unsaturated ketones is demonstrated, providing access to valuable products from simple starting materials.

Summary: In this study, we reported a novel palladium-catalyzed selective branched 3,4-hydroaminocarbonylation of 1,3-dienes to synthesize beta,gamma-unsaturated amides. This reaction utilizes readily available starting materials and tolerates a wide range of functional groups, providing an easy and effective approach to access diverse alpha-substituted beta,gamma-unsaturated amides. Mechanistic investigations suggest that the hydropalladation of dienes is irreversible and the insertion of CO into the allyl-Pd species is likely the rate-limiting step.

Summary: The synthesis of novel allylic alpha-diazo carbonyl compounds was achieved through a one-pot strategy involving base-catalyzed allylation of 1,3-dicarbonyls with readily available allylic bromides followed by the deacylative diazo transfer reaction. The use of simple and inexpensive reagents, non-toxic solvents, and mild reaction conditions further highlight the broad substrate scope and synthetic utility of these compounds. Rhodium-catalyzed transformations of alpha-diazo-gamma,delta-unsaturated esters led to different product formations depending on the substrate and catalyst employed.
