Indazoles are unselectively protected under strongly basic conditions to give a mixture at N-1 and N-2. Under mildly acidic conditions, regioselective protection at N-2 takes place. Thermodynamic conditions lead to regioselective protection at N-1. This trend applies to various substituted indazoles. Protected 5-bromoindazoles participate in Buchwald reactions with a range of amines to generate novel derivative.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in airborne particulate matter (PM2.0) emitted during floor waxing: A pilot study

Summary: This study investigated the emission of PFASs during floor stripping/waxing activities and their potential occupational exposures. The study found that concentrations of five PFASs in the air were significantly higher during floor stripping/waxing compared to before, and were one order of magnitude higher than typical indoor and outdoor concentrations. These results imply that floor stripping activities may lead to occupational PFAS exposures.

Cadmium modulates steatosis, fibrosis, and oncogenic signaling in liver cancer cells by activating notch and AKT/mTOR pathways

Suryakant Niture, Sashi Gadi, Minghui Lin, Qi Qi, Samiksha S. Niture, John T. Moore, Wanda Bodnar, Reshan A. Fernando, Keith E. Levine, Deepak Kumar

Summary: This study investigated the effects of low concentrations of cadmium (Cd) on liver cancer cell proliferation, steatosis, and fibrogenic/oncogenic signaling. Cd exposure increased reactive oxygen species production, enhanced cell proliferation, and activated Notch and AKT/mTOR pathways in liver cancer cells. Cd also induced cell steatosis and fibrogenic signaling. These findings suggest that low concentrations of Cd modulate steatosis, fibrogenic, and oncogenic signaling in liver cancer cells.

Double-Blind, Randomized Clinical Trial Comparing One Percent Buffered Versus Two Percent Unbuffered Lidocaine Injections in Children

Summary: This study compared the use of buffered one percent and unbuffered two percent lidocaine in children, finding that the buffered formulation resulted in a 63% decrease in mean blood lidocaine levels compared to unbuffered. However, there were no significant differences in pain upon injection, onset, and duration of anesthesia.

PFOS dominates PFAS composition in ambient fine particulate matter (PM2.5) collected across North Carolina nearly 20 years after the end of its US production

Summary: This study measured PFAS concentrations in ambient PM2.5 in North Carolina, finding higher levels of PFOA and PFOS and raising questions about their potential sources. It is the first study in the US to provide insights into ambient PFAS concentrations in PM2.5.
