Summary: Recent clinical trials have raised concerns about the potential adverse effects of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid supplementation on atrial fibrillation (AF) risk. This study aimed to assess the risk and potential mediators of AF and 'micro-AF' from n-3 PUFA in post-MI patients. The results showed that supplementation of n-3 PUFA increased the risk of 'micro-AF' and AF, and changes in EPA seemed to play an important role in mediating this effect. Rating: 8 out of 10.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of various factors on the conversion of ALA obtained from linseed oil into its long-chain metabolites and its effect on cardiovascular risk markers. The results showed that ALA, C-20:4n3, and EPA concentrations increased in erythrocytes in all groups, while DHA and n-3 index decreased in the HLA, LLA, and control groups. Only the MF and control groups showed an increase in C-22:5n3. Additionally, an increase in LA was found in the HLA, LLA, and control groups, while C-20:3n6, arachidonic acid, C-22:4n6, and C-22:5n6 decreased. Conversion into EPA was higher in men and in subjects with low EPA status. ALA supplementation did not have clear effects on blood lipids and glucose metabolism parameters, consistent with the literature.

Summary: The cardiovascular benefits of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids after acute myocardial infarction are controversial. This study found that increases in EPA and DHA during supplementation were associated with improvements in certain cardiovascular markers. Greater increases in EPA were associated with lower risk of major adverse cardiovascular events and higher risk of new-onset atrial fibrillation.

The results showed that EGCG treatment altered the expression of circRNAs in mice livers, and one upregulated circRNA (mmu_circRNA_011775) affected the expression of genes related to liver fibrosis and the cardiovascular system.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of maternal vitamin D levels during pregnancy on infantile eczema. The findings suggest that lower prenatal maternal vitamin D levels increase the risk of eczema in infants aged 0-1 year. Furthermore, the study indicates that infants with eczema have lower expression of the Foxp3 gene in cord blood and decreased placental FOXP3 protein expression. These results suggest that vitamin D may affect the development of infantile eczema through the regulation of gene and protein expression in cord blood and placenta.

Summary: Long-term consumption of a high-fat diet disrupts energy balance and leads to weight gain. The fat mass and obesity-associated (FTO) gene is involved in high-fat diet-induced obesity. The hypothalamus plays a crucial role in regulating energy balance, and high-fat diet-induced hypothalamic leptin resistance contributes to obesity. The study reveals that FTO is associated with hypothalamic leptin resistance and provides new insight into its role in obesity.
