Summary: Ionotropic gelation (IG) is an attractive method for synthesizing water-soluble polymeric nanoparticles and sub-micron particles. The technique relies on the electrostatic interaction between ionic species of opposite charge. However, achieving size control in conventional bench-top processes is challenging. This study explores the combination of membrane dispersion technology with IG as a scalable method for producing chitosan sub-micron particles.

Summary: Chitosan is a natural polysaccharide that is biodegradable, bioadhesive, and biocompatible. It has been extensively studied for oral insulin drug delivery systems. Electrostatic interaction between chitosan and insulin leads to the formation of self-assembled nanoparticles, which can protect insulin from degradation and improve intestinal uptake. Functionalized chitosan nanoparticles also offer opportunities for targeted and prolonged delivery. This review provides a comprehensive guide for formulating stable insulin-chitosan nanoparticles using mild ionic interactions.

Summary: In this study, beta-cyclodextrin/alginate nanoparticles loaded with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) were prepared and evaluated for their release properties and bioactivity in different pH media. The nanoparticles exhibited good loading efficiency and encapsulation efficiency. The release profile of 5-FU was influenced by the pH of the media, and the nanoparticles showed strong antiproliferative activity against cancer cells with minimal effects on normal cells.

Summary: Medicine/nanotechnology is gaining great attention as a new and applicable technique for cancer treatment through drug delivery systems. Polysaccharides, such as cellulose, beta-cyclodextrin, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, and chitosan, are natural bio-materials that are suitable for designing and formulating nanosystems due to their exceptional advantages. An intelligent drug delivery platform based on these hybrids has been developed for dual-responsive dual-drug delivery. The combination of nanotechnology and biological molecules has been actively explored to overcome the limitations of conventional cancer treatments. This review discusses and investigates the latest developments in the field of biomedical therapeutics and cancer therapy using hybrid platforms of anticancer drugs/nanoparticles/Polysaccharides, highlighting their biocompatibility, large surface area, and promising future prospects.

Summary: This study aimed to optimize a nanoparticle formulation for orally delivered insulin by assessing the relationship between design parameters and experimental data using response surface methodology. The results showed that a nanoparticle formulation with 0.03% PEG, 0.047% chitosan, and 1.20% albumin provided an optimal solution for insulin oral delivery, maintaining insulin bioactivity in simulated intestinal media.

Summary: Bio metal-organic frameworks (Bio-MOFs) were synthesized using glutamic acid as the organic linker and copper as the metal node, in the presence of citric acid-based graphene quantum dots (GQDs). Naproxen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, was loaded onto GQDs@Bio-MOF(Cu) at approximately 53.1%. The coated system, CMS@CS/(NAP@GQDs@Bio-MOF(Cu)), showed controlled drug release and exhibited biodegradability, biocompatibility, and antibacterial properties. This study suggests that CMS@CS/(NAP@GQDs@Bio-MOF(Cu)) has potential applications in pharmaceuticals for the encapsulation, protection, and delivery of Naproxen without concerns about bacterial infections.

Summary: This study aimed to enhance the solubility and release characteristics of docetaxel by synthesizing highly porous and stimuli responsive nanosponges. The nanosponges showed improved drug loading and solubilization efficiency, with significantly higher drug release at pH 6.8. FTIR, TGA, and DSC studies confirmed the successful grafting of components into the stable nano-polymeric network, while SEM images visualized a porous and sponge-like structure. An acute oral toxicity study confirmed the safety of the nanosponge system for drug delivery.
