The direct asymmetric a-benzoyloxylation of beta-ketocarbonyls catalyzed by a chiral primary amine is described herein. This protocol demonstrates excellent enantioselectivity for a broad range of substrates, which allows convenient access to highly enantioenriched a-hydroxy-beta-ketocarbonyls.
