Summary: This paper demonstrates how a participatory approach can be used for program evaluation and its implications for learning competencies for sustainability. Students engaged in assessing how five key competencies were being delivered, revealing discrepancies between student experiences and teacher perceptions. The study also suggests a sixth competency-implementation skills-as relevant to teaching for sustainable development.

Summary: Practice-Based Learning and Improvement is an important competency throughout a physician's career, but current methods for accurately identifying and reporting complications are inadequate. This study compares a manual-supplemented natural language processing (ms-NLP) method with a validated electronic morbidity and mortality (MM) database and finds that both methods fail to identify a significant proportion of postoperative complications, but ms-NLP more frequently identifies minor complications.

Summary: The healthcare sector is a major contributor to climate change and there are international calls for more sustainable forms of clinical care. The UK healthcare sector has committed to net zero carbon by 2040 and sustainable healthcare is a mandated outcome for all UK graduating doctors. Bristol Medical School piloted the Sustainability in Quality Improvement (SusQI) workshop and identified challenges in translating classroom learning into clinical practice. The study conducted focus groups to identify barriers and facilitators to practice among medical students, and generated educational recommendations based on the findings and behavior change theory. Students who applied their learning to the clinical workplace were internally motivated and self-determined, but needed time and opportunity to complete projects. Other students were cautious of disrupting established hierarchies and frustrated by institutional inertia, impacting their confidence in suggesting or achieving change. Conclusions include recommendations for wider curricular engagement with sustainable clinical practice, workplace enablement strategies, and structured opportunities for project work.

Summary: The study evaluated the differential impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on radiology resident imaging volumes, finding an overall 62.8% decline in imaging interpretation volume from pre-pandemic to intrapandemic periods. R1s and R2s experienced the greatest decline, with mammography, MRI, and nuclear medicine also significantly affected. During the pandemic, a total of 478 resident workdays were reassigned outside the radiology reading room.

Summary: This paper presents a three-year research study on enhancing case-based learning in education for sustainability. It proposes the use of an extensive mixed media case and an active learning environment to facilitate multidimensional analysis through a sustainability audit, overcoming the challenges of traditional case-based learning. The findings of the study suggest that students are more engaged and develop the knowledge, skills, and values required for work readiness and to become sustainability change agents through their immersion in an audit. Therefore, this paper may be of interest to educators seeking an innovative approach to education for sustainability that overcomes the challenges of traditional case-based learning and promotes active, experiential learning of the multi-faceted aspects of sustainability.

Summary: The article focuses on investigating and evaluating sustainable development activities in the educational system that aim to shape a pro-quality attitude. According to UNESCO, a holistic approach is necessary for education on sustainable development. Pro-quality education plays a dual role by incorporating innovative and sustainable development-related content, and by connecting other educational activities to achieve the goals of sustainable development education. The research findings indicate that the Polish educational system does not prioritize the cultivation of a pro-quality attitude among high school students.

Summary: The study found that a significant percentage of VSFs do not achieve the ACGME Vascular Surgery Milestone targets for graduation in the competencies of SBP and PBLI, indicating a need for improvement in curricula and assessment strategies across vascular surgery fellowship programs. Reported milestones levels at different time points are predictive of ultimate achievement upon graduation and should be used to provide targeted feedback and individualized learning plans for graduates to engage in personal and health care system improvement in unsupervised practice.

Summary: The study revealed that university faculty generally lack a comprehensive understanding of sustainability, with an overemphasis on the environmental dimension. There is a need for better training to teach sustainability competencies and a lack of awareness among faculty. Project-based learning is prevalent, with service-learning seen as the most effective strategy, although hindered by training gaps.

Summary: This mixed methods study investigates the relationship between practice-based pedagogies of teacher education and teachers' subsequent classroom practice. The quantitative findings show that longer episodes of decomposition in teacher coaching sessions predict teachers' growth in observation protocol scores. The qualitative analyses reveal that longer episodes of decomposition involve opportunities for teacher learners to participate in the process. These findings have significant implications for instructional coaches, teacher educators, and future research.

Summary: The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationships between eHealth literacy (eHL) and patient portal awareness, use, and attitudes among hospitalized patients. The results showed that low eHL was associated with less awareness, use, and perceived usefulness of portals. Interestingly, although patients' perceived usefulness of portals increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, their eHL did not. Interventions tailored for patients with low eHL could ensure greater equity in health care delivery through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Summary: The study aimed to describe multimodal pain management practices at US children's hospitals and evaluate the association between non-opioid pain management strategies and pediatric patient-reported outcomes. The use of postoperative non-opioid analgesics has been widely adopted, while preoperative non-opioid analgesics and regional anesthetic blocks are less frequently used. Regional anesthetic blocks and biobehavioral interventions may help mitigate postoperative nervousness in children, but there was no significant association between non-opioid pain control modalities and pain-related functional disability or health-related quality of life.
