Summary: This study investigates the potential of the family resemblance approach (FRA) in elaborating on disciplinary identities in an interdisciplinary context, particularly in relation to the interplay between physics and mathematics. The combination of the FRA with the framework of boundary objects and boundary crossing mechanisms proves effective in fostering productive discussions among prospective teachers on disciplinary identities and interdisciplinarity in historical cases.

Summary: This paper documents a case study on collaborative transdisciplinary (TD) and interdisciplinary (ID) graduate programs at the University of British Columbia, examining how these programs equip students with research competencies and prepare them for collaborative applied research. The study found that breadth programs expose students to diverse disciplinary perspectives, while depth programs focus on specific research problems in fewer disciplines. Co-supervision and thesis committee membership were identified as valuable avenues for mentorship. Respondents expressed a desire for more applied research opportunities and connections with potential employers outside academia.

Summary: This study examines the impact of a longitudinal, near-peer, dedicated ECG didactic curriculum on the ability of internal medicine residents to interpret ECGs accurately. The findings indicate that residents who participated in the curriculum demonstrated improved ECG interpretation skills. Attendance in more sessions and exposure to clinical cardiology rotations were also associated with greater proficiency in interpreting ECGs.

Summary: Several commentators have called for a re-examination of the purpose and value of undergraduate education, arguing that universities need to change in order to meet the changing and challenging needs of students and communities. This paper reviews the case for undergraduate curriculum change and presents a case study of how one Australian university addressed this challenge. The study describes the reasons for change, the desired outcomes, and the early impacts on students' study patterns.

Summary: The study highlighted discrepancies between cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses of the same dataset. Cross-sectional analyses showed significant differences in engineering utility value and interest by student division, but no significant gender differences for any variable. Longitudinal analyses revealed significant decreases in engineering utility value, self-efficacy, and interest for lower division students, as well as a decrease in engineering attainment value for upper division students over a one-year period. Moreover, there was a gender gap in engineering self-efficacy for upper division students, with men reporting higher means than women.

Summary: The research found significant differences in the development of career-relevant skills among STEM doctoral students in the U.S., with students funded through research assistantships performing better in research and teamwork skills, while those with teaching assistantships excelling in peer training and mentoring skills. Students supported by external fellowships showed lower skill development in all four career-relevant skills compared to those primarily funded by research assistantships.

Summary: This study focuses on the academic pathways of Black/African American and Hispanic/Latino engineering PhD graduates and finds that the majority of them did not graduate from top-tier institutions. Instead, they earned their degrees from non-top-tier, non-US, and minority-serving institutions. The results also indicate that recruiting students and faculty solely from a few top-tier institutions is unlikely to increase diversity among racially minoritized individuals in engineering.

Summary: This study surveyed 579 students from 25 Science, Engineering, and Computer Science courses across 14 universities to examine the influence of students' belongingness and self-efficacy on their response to active learning, as well as the moderating effect of gender identity. The findings showed that belongingness and self-efficacy independently predicted students' affective and behavioral response to active learning. Additionally, belongingness predicted students' behavioral participation in active learning. Furthermore, despite differences in value, positivity, and distraction, gender did not affect the strength of relations between variables.

Summary: The study found that funding instability and unavailability of desired funding types can limit some STEM doctoral students' agency. Advisors can encourage students to pursue opportunities to gain skills or networking connections through different types of funding. Students were unable to articulate specific ways that assistantships prepared them for nonacademic positions, pointing to a direction for future research.
