Summary: The study found that the human visual system is able to extract summary statistics from sets of similar items, but the underlying neural mechanism is still poorly understood. The neural representation of ensemble coding is gradually increased in response to the mean orientation of multiple stimuli, especially when the orientations are task-relevant, and can co-exist with task-relevant individual feature representation. It is suggested that the neural representation of ensemble percept is formed by pooling signals at multiple levels of the visual processing stream.

Summary: This study used transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to test the functional role of parietal and prefrontal cortical regions activated during a playing card Guilty Knowledge Task (GKT). The results showed that TMS applied to the parietal cortex increased reaction time specifically when subjects were instructed to lie. However, further research is needed to compare performance within and outside of a deceptive context to clarify the effects of deceptive intent.

Summary: Working memory is an essential component of cognition, but the mechanisms by which neural populations represent and maintain working memory are still unclear. In this study using mice, researchers found that distributed areas of the neocortex were selectively involved in the maintenance of working memory during a visual task. They also discovered that working memory representations were embedded in high-dimensional population activity in visual area AM and premotor area M2, persisting throughout the inter-stimulus delay period.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that stimulus history can be decoded and mnemonic representations reactivated using broadband sensory impulses. Additionally, predictive mechanisms allow the brain to form sensory predictions based on previous stimuli and update them when errors occur between model predictions and external inputs. This study recorded neural activity in the auditory cortex of anesthetized rats using electrocorticography and found that both stimulus history and predicted stimuli can be decoded from neural responses to broadband impulses.

Summary: This study examined the role of visual and auditory cortices in the processing of multisensory information using event-related potentials. The results showed that the second audiovisual stimulus in both spatial and temporal bisection tasks elicited an early ERP response in visual and auditory regions. However, this response was more prominent in the occipital areas during the spatial task and in the temporal areas during the temporal task.

Summary: In GAN-based ZSL approaches, the inconsistency between visual features and semantic attributes is induced by non-preserved semantic-relevant components and non-rectified semantic-irrelevant low-level visual details. Aligning the distribution of the two modalities with a visual-to-semantic embedding can solve the issue, but it may cause the hubness problem and decrease the diversity of visual modality. In our proposed LCR-GAN, we address this problem by embedding visual features and semantic attributes into a shared latent space.
