Summary: This meta-regression analysis aimed to investigate the relationship between fibre type cross-sectional area (CSA) and frequency (%) and meat quality traits, specifically tenderness. The results showed that only pH, WBSF, and drip loss were significantly associated with fibre type frequency and CSA (p < 0.05). When limited to pork analysis, it was found that frequency of type I fibres was associated with decreased drip loss, increased cook loss, decreased lightness (L*), and increased sensory tenderness, while frequency of type IIb fibres was associated with increased drip loss (p < 0.05). Additionally, CSA of type I and IIb fibres was correlated with color traits of lightness and redness (p < 0.05). Further research should focus on different breeds and muscles to enhance understanding of the effects of fibre type frequency and CSA on meat quality.

Summary: This study investigated the association between microscopic polyangiitis and the single nucleotide polymorphism rs807185 in autophagy-associated gene 4A (ATG4A) in the Chinese population. Using multiplex polymerase chain reaction and high-throughput sequencing, it was found that the control group had a higher frequency of the A allele of rs807185 compared to the microscopic polyangiitis group, suggesting that the A allele of rs807185 may have a protective effect against microscopic polyangiitis in the Chinese population. However, the molecular mechanisms remain unclear.

Summary: This study found that marinating pork with 3% Hypsizygus marmoreus (HM) can improve water retention and tenderness, as well as affect the structure of myofibrils. Compared to 0.2% papain, HM can more effectively degrade proteins.

Summary: A study on the genetic architecture underlying mottled egg trait in layer chickens used genome-wide association studies, revealing significant loci influencing mottled egg on laying day, as well as candidate genes associated with mottled eggshell. The research suggests that genomic selection could be a profitable method for breeding out the mottled egg trait in hens.

Summary: This review aims to develop a single score tool for meat quality evaluation based on visual and sensorial assessments of fresh meat. The study identifies meat color, sensory characteristics, and fat content as the most important intrinsic quality cues of fresh beef and pork, as well as the importance of price, certification logos, and brand for beef quality evaluation. A single-score tool named the Meat quality index has been developed, following approaches used in the food sector.

Summary: This study designed specific primers based on the 18S ribosomal RNA sequences of microalgae, enabling rapid detection of 12 microalgae without the need for cloning and sequencing. The use of SNP-mismatch primer pairs successfully identified C. sorokiniana DOE1412 and Scenedesmus among others, offering a cost-effective and easy alternative for routine monitoring of microalgal cultures.

Summary: This study analyzed the association between SNP variants in CRYAA and CRYAB genes and Congenital Cataract. The results showed that the rs13053109 G > C variant in CRYAA gene is associated with increased risk of congenital cataract in infants. Haplotype analysis indicated weak linkage disequilibrium between the SNPs rs3761382, rs7278468, and rs13051039 of CRYAA gene. These findings suggest that the variation in CRYAA gene may be a risk factor for congenital cataract in infants.

Summary: This study investigated the distribution of two SNPs in the PIK3CD gene and their association with litter size in sheep. The results showed that rs412889931 was associated with sheep fecundity and may regulate litter size by influencing the expression of the PIK3CD gene. This study suggests that rs412889931 could be used as a marker for selecting litter size in sheep breeding.

Summary: Growing evidence suggests that genetics plays a role in prostate cancer susceptibility and severity. This study investigated the association between TP53 gene SNPs and clinico-pathological features of prostate cancer in African American (AA) and Caucasian (CA) men. The results showed ancestral differences in allele frequencies, with the TP53 Arg72Pro SNP associated with a shorter time to biochemical recurrence.

Summary: This study found that the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs1937 on the mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) gene is associated with longevity. Individuals with the CC genotype of rs1937 are more likely to have increased longevity. Further studies are needed to understand the biological mechanism of rs1937 in promoting longevity.

Summary: This study investigated the association between RA and single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of co-stimulatory or co-inhibitory molecules. The results showed that there were 13 SNPs associated with RA, which may play an important role in immune regulation and require further research into the pathogenesis of RA.
