Summary: Due to the complexity of lipids, in silico generated spectral libraries have become crucial for identifying lipid species in mass spectral data. However, many existing libraries have limitations in usability and representativeness. To address this issue, we introduce Lipid Spectrum Generator, an open-source tool specifically designed for aiding lipid identification in liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry analysis.

Summary: An PreIS-HILIC-MS method was established to specifically and selectively screen PLEPA/DHA in different fish oil samples, including saury, grass carp, hairtail, and yellow croaker. The method demonstrated high sensitivity, good linearity, and suitability for quantitative analysis of PLEPA/DHA in fish oil samples, with the ability to identify and quantify 24 different compounds. The performance of this method was compared with traditional full-scan mode and showed unique superiority in targeted screening of PLEPA/DHA in fish oils.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in phospholipid molecular species in four varieties of brown rice during accelerated aging. The results showed that the content of phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), and phosphatidylglycerol (PG) gradually decreased in japonica rice, but showed no difference in indica rice during accelerated aging. The findings provide insights into the impact of accelerated aging on phospholipids of brown rice.

Summary: In this study, the content and composition of POA and POA lipids in six seafood by-products were analyzed using UHPLC-QE/MS. The results showed significant variations in the relative content of POA among different fish species, and the presence and ratio of POA-PL and POA-DG/TG could be used to identify different fish species.

Summary: This paper introduces a constrained principal component analysis approach for projecting high-dimensional samples from different groups to a lower-dimensional space with stochastically ordered principal scores. Numerical simulations show significant improvement in scores and loading matrix compared to traditional PCA. The method is validated through data examples involving authenticity verification of rice and analysis of liver diseases.

Summary: Phosphoinositides, phosphorylated derivatives of phosphatidylinositols, are crucial signaling phospholipids in mammalian cellular membranes. Identifying and characterizing these phosphoinositides and their isomers accurately using traditional shotgun mass spectrometry is challenging. However, utilizing novel gas-phase ion/ion chemistry expands the range of precursor ion-types and allows for structural characterization of phosphoinositides. This method provides valuable information on the phosphorylation degree, fatty acyl composition, and isomeric species.

Summary: Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a metabolic disorder caused by impaired function of phenylalanine hydroxylase. Treatment involves restricting phenylalanine intake through dietary modifications. Analysis showed significant differences in plasma phospholipid composition between PKU children and healthy children, with higher levels of phosphatidylcholines containing polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) in PKU group.

Summary: Lipidomics is a research area focusing on the complete lipid profile within organisms using mass spectrometry analysis. This review comprehensively discusses the identification, quantification, and health benefits of TAG and PL species in marine sources, highlighting the importance of isotopic deconvolution and instrument responses in quantitative analysis. Most marine TAG and PL species contain polyunsaturated omega 3 long-chain fatty acids, particularly EPA and DHA, and their health effects are discussed in this review.
