Summary: This study demonstrated that extracellular vesicles (EVs) overexpressing SerpinB3 (EVs-SB3) exhibit enhanced protection from oxidative stress-induced damage compared to naive EVs or SerpinB3 alone. Proteomic analysis revealed significant changes in EVs-SB3, characterized by reduced expression of other proteins. The induced expression of the SerpinB3 transgene resulted in the secretion of EVs enriched with the protein product, showing increased cytoprotective activity.

Summary: The Nrf2 gene encodes a transcription factor that regulates antioxidant and detoxification gene expression. Fresh DMEM and L-Cystine can induce Nrf2 protein in various cell types, leading to the activation of Nrf2 downstream genes and cytoprotection against oxidative stress and tissue injury.

Summary: The research identified ciclopirox and apomorphine as compounds that can inhibit PARP1-mediated cell death induced by hydrogen peroxide, demonstrating anti-inflammatory effects. These compounds achieve this by inhibiting PAR polymer synthesis and reducing mitochondrial superoxide production.

Summary: The autophagy receptor Optineurin/Optn plays a physiological role in the endoplasmic reticulum stress response, regulating cell death and signaling pathways. Optn deficiency results in higher cell death and caspase-3 activation, while upregulating transcript levels of genes in the IRE1-XBP1 and PERK-ATF4 pathways. This suggests that Optn modulation provides protection against ER stress-induced cell death.

Summary: Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a genetic disease characterized by anemia, increased hemolysis, and vaso-occlusive crises. Current approved drugs for SCD have limited effectiveness, and curative therapies are not widely available due to cost and adverse effects. Increasing fetal hemoglobin (HbF) expression can alleviate SCD severity by inhibiting hemoglobin S (HbS) polymerization and reducing oxidative stress. The Keap-1-Nrf2 complex, a cytoprotective signaling pathway, may represent a better target for more effective treatment options in SCD.

Summary: This study screened polyphenolic compounds from Asplenium adiantum-nigrum L. fronds and evaluated their in vitro activities. The results showed that the extract had strong antioxidant and cytoprotective effects without cytotoxicity, and it did not cause phototoxicity under specific conditions.

Summary: Neural stem/progenitor cells play a role in the physiological cellular turnover of the adult brain, with recent evidence suggesting the importance of redox stress sensing and coping mechanisms in mediating their self-renewal and differentiation. Understanding these mechanisms is crucial for identifying potential therapeutic targets in neurodegenerative diseases and traumatic brain injuries.

Summary: Disulfidptosis, a novel form of cell death caused by disulfide stress, leads to the collapse of cytoskeleton proteins and F-actin due to intracellular accumulation of disulfides. This finding holds potential for the development of therapeutic strategies against cancer.

Summary: Although sickle cell disease (SCD) is related to a single point mutation, there is extreme variability in the clinical presentation among patients. Genetic variants may contribute to this variability. In this study, Dosunmu-Ogunbi et al. highlighted the importance of a genetic variant affecting mitochondrial function in the cardiovascular pathophysiology of SCD. Their findings provide important insights and perspectives for patient management.

Summary: This study aimed to purify and identify antioxidant peptides from Antarctic Krill hydrolysate and investigate their protective effects on H2O2-induced oxidative stress in Chang liver cells. Results showed that LKPGN and LQP exhibited high scavenging activities and cytoprotective effects by increasing antioxidant enzyme levels and mitochondrial membrane potential. These peptides could serve as promising candidates for health-promoting products.

Summary: In this study, it was found that glycomacropeptide (GMP) has anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties on HaCaT keratinocytes in an in vitro model of atopic dermatitis. Furthermore, GMP stimulated cell proliferation and migration, suggesting its potential therapeutic use in wound healing.
