Summary: Dietary fiber is important for health, and a validated tool for assessing food consumption related to high-fiber foods can help quantify the intake of fiber, identify risk groups and target populations, and inform the development of health policies and programs. In this study, a fiber intake short food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) was translated into Spanish, validated by experts, and tested on 198 Chilean adults. The FFQ showed a high validity coefficient of 0.98 and revealed that the mean dietary fiber intake in Chilean adults was similar to the national survey data.

Summary: This case-control study assessed the dietary intake and habits of Cypriot Huntington's disease (HD) patients and found that they have significantly higher energy intake compared to controls. The study also revealed differences in macro and micronutrients and adherence to the Mediterranean Diet by both patients and controls and by HD symptom severity.

Summary: This study examined the validity and reliability of an FFQ designed to estimate dietary vitamin D and Calcium intakes in Iranian childbearing age women. The results indicated that the FFQ has acceptable validity for estimating vitamin D and Ca, with stronger reliability for Ca than for vitamin D.

Summary: The objective of this study is to provide updated data on the intake of total dietary fibre in Chile and identify the main food sources. The results show that 90% of the population do not meet the recommended intake and bread is the major contributor. These data are crucial for developing strategies to improve diet quality.

Summary: Vitamin D is essential for bone health and preventing metabolic bone disorders. Vitamin D deficiency is common in Italy and supplementation with vitamin D2 or D3 is often recommended. However, studies on vitamin D intake in the Italian population are not well-designed and incomplete. This study aimed to validate a food questionnaire for assessing dietary vitamin D intake in Italians and found a low intake of vitamin D, which contributes to hypovitaminosis D.

Summary: The study found negligible direct associations between ASD diagnosis and the gut microbiome, but suggested that ASD-related restricted interests may be linked to diet, microbial taxonomic diversity, and stool consistency. The dataset was well powered to detect microbiome associations with traits such as age, dietary intake, and stool consistency, cautioning against claims that the microbiome has a driving role in ASD.

Summary: Nutritional epidemiology investigates the relationship between nutrition and disease using experimental and observational study designs. Due to the limitations of randomized controlled trials, observational studies, particularly prospective cohort studies, are commonly used to examine the long-term associations between diet and kidney disease. Instead of focusing on single nutrients or foods, holistic evaluations of dietary patterns are more relevant to disease etiology, considering the interactions between various dietary components. Traditional self-reported dietary intake methods are subject to bias, while newer objective dietary assessment approaches still need refinement and validation. More accurate and frequent diet assessments will contribute to personalized dietary recommendations for kidney disease prevention and treatment.

Summary: This study developed a food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) for children with phenylketonuria (PKU) to assess their habitual dietary intake. The FFQ showed good reproducibility and validity when compared to repeated dietary recalls. Comparisons between PKU and control groups using the FFQ revealed expected differences in nutrient intake.

Summary: This study evaluated the validity and reproducibility of a semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire (SFFQ) in adult populations in China. The SFFQ was found to provide valid estimates for most food groups and performed well in estimating habitual intakes of unsaturated fatty acids. However, the overall correlation between the SFFQ and the 24-hour dietary records was relatively low. The reproducibility of the SFFQ was moderate for food group estimates.

Summary: Regular consumption of cowpea-based dishes in Southern Benin contributes significantly to the recommended nutrient intake (RNI), providing a substantial amount of energy, fiber, magnesium, folate, protein, zinc, and potassium. With a high prevalence of cowpea consumption in both urban and rural areas, maintaining this dietary habit is crucial for environmental and health benefits.
