Summary: Adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer patients, aged 15-39 years old, face unique challenges in their disease trajectory. Although the number of AYA cancer survivors has increased, they are at risk of long-term and late effects. Research efforts are needed to inform survivorship care for this growing population.

Summary: In order to best support the diverse needs of adolescent and young adult cancer survivors, healthcare providers should assess and support them using a biopsychosocial and contextual framework. Building a trusting relationship with patients to openly discuss the physical and psychosocial aspects of sexual health is key to providing optimal care and outcomes.

Summary: This study examined emotional distress in cancer survivors diagnosed as adolescents or young adults compared to survivors diagnosed as middle/older adults and the general population without a history of cancer. The findings showed that emotional distress was more prevalent among young adult cancer survivors than middle/older adult survivors. However, there was no difference in emotional distress between young adult cancer survivors and the general population without cancer.

Summary: This article discusses considerations for the comprehensive care of adolescent and young adult (AYA) patients with cancer, based on the NCCN Guidelines for AYA Oncology. AYA patients have unique needs in terms of treatment, fertility counseling, psychosocial and behavioral issues, and supportive care services compared to older adults with cancer.

Summary: This study explores five coping strategies employed by AYA survivors of childhood cancer to deal with the long-term consequences of their cancer experience, emphasizing the effort required to cope with being a childhood cancer survivor even long after treatment ends. It highlights the importance of individual frame of reference as the starting point for psychosocial support.

Summary: This study found that adolescent and young adult cancer patients in the US have a suicide rate over 20% higher than the general population, with the majority of suicides occurring within the first 5 years following diagnosis. Risk factors associated with a higher risk of suicide include male sex, white race, unmarried state, distant tumor stage, and single primary tumor.

Summary: This study aims to identify AYA sarcoma survivors with impaired social functioning (ISF) and determine the clinical and psychosocial factors associated with ISF. The study found that more than one-quarter of AYA sarcoma survivors experience ISF long after diagnosis. Unemployment and having to make lifestyle changes due to financial problems caused by physical conditions or medical treatment were associated with ISF, while better social support was associated with non-ISF. These results emphasize the importance of follow-up care that focuses not only on the disease but also on the psychological and social domains.

Summary: Despite growing awareness of age-specific care for adolescent and young adult cancer patients, it is not always provided or accepted as standard care. A study in the Netherlands found that a significant proportion of long-term survivors had missed age-specific care, particularly female survivors who were diagnosed at a younger age and received certain treatments. These survivors had a variety of needs, including disease and treatment information, emotional support, support from friends and family, fertility and pregnancy, work and reintegration, as well as comprehensive care and overall well-being. Improving age-specific care services for these survivors is necessary.

Summary: Negative body changes are common among adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors, impacting their self-esteem and social relationships. This study aimed to examine the prevalence and factors associated with negative body image among AYA survivors 5-20 years after diagnosis. Female survivors, those with higher BMI or tumor stage, breast cancer diagnosis, chemotherapy treatment, and lower HRQoL scores were more likely to experience a negative body image. Integration of supportive care for those experiencing negative body image is crucial in AYA survivorship care.

Summary: Advancements in cancer treatments have improved survival in adolescents and young adults (AYAs), but they are still at risk for late effects and nutritional challenges. Understanding and addressing these challenges in AYA cancer survivors is important for improving their overall quality of life and survival.

Summary: This study investigated the feasibility and effects of intelligent wearable device-based physical activity (PA) therapy and internet-based modified behavioral activation (BA) therapy to improve sleep quality among adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer patients. The results showed that the intelligent wearable device-based PA therapy had more advantages in improving the overall state of AYA cancer patients and the intervention effect was sustained for at least 3 months.

Summary: The study conducted a questionnaire survey and a lecture by cancer survivors to explore the knowledge and acceptance of healthcare students towards AYA-generation cancers. The results showed that the population educated about AYA cancers had more knowledge about AYA-generation cancers, but the current awareness about AYA-generation cancers is still limited, emphasizing the importance of school education. The lecture by cancer survivors received high participant satisfaction and helped to raise awareness about AYA-generation cancers.

Summary: The newly developed LFA-NanoSuit method (LNSM) combined with a desktop scanning electron microscope (SEM) allows for direct observation of immunocomplexes labeled with a colloidal metal, achieving high clinical sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing pathogens like influenza A. This method's detection ability is nearly comparable to real-time reverse transcription-PCR, offering a simple and highly sensitive quantitative analysis method for diagnosing various diseases in humans and livestock, including highly infectious diseases such as COVID-19.

Summary: The study found that primary cilia (PC) were present in salivary gland tumors (SGTs) with basaloid/myoepithelial differentiation components, but absent in those without. PC-positive SGTs exhibited longer PC than normal, a characteristic distribution pattern, activation of the Hedgehog pathway, and association with TTBK2 upregulation, indicating a significant link between SGT tumorigenesis and PC.
