The Journal of Physical Chemistry A (JPC A) ) publishes experimental, theoretical, and computational research on the physical chemistry of molecules, ions, radicals, clusters, and aerosols. JPC A emphasizes applications in the areas of atmospheric and environmental chemistry, aerosol processes, molecular geochemistry, combustion, astrochemistry, plasmas, cold molecules, catalysis, and energetic materials, among others. JPC A also publishes manuscripts that describe new tools or methods that are of broad interest to the physical chemistry community. My boss has been in the field for too long and has talked to me about this series of journals. Before it split, this journal was called the Journal of Physical Chemistry, which was a top-tier journal in the field of physical chemistry. Later, when biochemistry became popular, it split into JPCB, and then when materials chemistry became popular, it split into JPCC. As a result, the original domain of JPC, or the traditional domain, was divided into JPCA, which represents the least trendy part, causing a reverse impact factor flow - JPCA < JPCB < JPCC. Personally, I think that publishing in JPC is highly recognized in various fields. As for JPCA, it still has a strong influence in the various sub-domains it covers. Although its impact factor is low, it is not embarrassing to have representative papers published in it.

Why did my vote change from C to A? How did it get classified into Zone 3? I thought the quality of this journal was still good.
