The aim of this international peer-reviewed journal of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) is to provide a broad-based forum for the exchange of real-world and theoretical knowledge from academia, government and industry that is pertinent to mining, mineral/metallurgical processing, exploration and other fields served by the Society.

The journal publishes high-quality original research publications, in-depth special review articles, reviews of state-of-the-art and innovative technologies and industry methodologies, communications of work of topical and emerging interest, and other works that enhance understanding on both the fundamental and practical levels.

I submitted a paper on the direction of intelligent mining. It was submitted on 15th August 2021. After submission, the editor changed the assigned time three to five times, and it was directly delayed until 1st October. I sent a reminder once to expedite the process.

On 2nd October 2021, it entered the external review stage. On 3rd November 2021, the external review feedback came back. On 10th November, I urgently needed the results and sent a reminder.

On 15th November 2021, it underwent major revisions. It was returned on 25th November. On 10th December 2021, it entered external review again. It was returned on 30th December.

On 6th January 2022, it was accepted. Overall, the external review process felt fast, while the editing process was slower. However, the editor was very good, and I can only express my gratitude.

Founded in 1984, originally named Mineral & Metallurgical Processing, it was renamed Mining Metallurgy & Exploration in 2019. It is the flagship journal of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME). It covers topics related to mining, geology, and applied aspects of mineral processing. Currently, there is only one scholar from mainland China on the editorial board, but the future looks promising. The impact factor has been increasing year by year, but the review process is becoming slower. It is a non-open access journal.
