$200,000USD The Dr. A.H. Heineken Prize for Medicine consists of a sculpture of the Greek god of medicine, Asclepius (designed by Simons Juweliers of The Hague), and USD 200,000. The prize is funded by the Alfred Heineken Fondsen Foundation.

The prize is for a top international researcher in medicine whose scientific work still holds significant promise and whose achievements have led or are expected to lead to an important application in medical practice.Researchers can be nominated for the Dr. H.P. Heineken Prize for Medicine by:
- Academy members
- Governing boards and deans of Dutch universities
- Directors of Dutch research institutes
- Individual professors at universities in the Netherlands and abroad
- Academies and other scientific and scholarly institutions in the Netherlands and abroad
- The board of the Dutch Network of Women Professors (Landelijk Netwerk Vrouwelijke Hoogleraren)

The Dr. A.H. Heineken Prize for Medicine recognises pioneering work in medicine and is awarded to a researcher whose achievements have led or are expected to lead to an important application in medical practice.
