Summary: The West and Central African Rift System is a unique stable continental structure formed by large-scale topographic swells. Through the use of global gravitational and topographic-bathymetric models, researchers were able to determine the crustal structure and Moho depth variations in different regions of the WCARS. The findings also shed light on metacratonization processes that occurred during the Neoproterozoic.

Summary: By utilizing new gravity data and marine gravity data, a 3D gravity sources model of Gran Canaria Island has been derived to investigate the geological structures beneath its surface. The density model identifies structures related to different volcanic stages, revealing the evolutionary history of Gran Canaria.

Summary: This study presents a Bouguer anomaly gravity map of Gran Canaria Island based on a new gravity data set and marine gravity data. Using gravity inversion, the study investigates the structures beneath the island's surface and derives a 3D gravity sources model. The results show different structures related to volcanic stages, magma plumbing systems, and low-density bodies in the center and shallow areas of the island.

Summary: In this study, a Bayesian gravity inversion algorithm was used to infer a complete 3-D density model of the crust in the Wilkes Land region. The main objective was to provide information on the crust thickness and sediment deposits. Two gravity observations were inverted to adjust the initial model and obtain an improved model coherent with gravity. The results reveal a thick crust with high densities, sedimentary basins with significant thicknesses, and a lighter mantle density below the Trans-Antarctic Mountains.

Summary: This study demonstrates the benefits of incorporating seismic tomography constraints in gravity data inversion to improve density distributions. By enforcing structural similarities between seismic velocity and density models, the inversion process successfully recovers density contrasts at different depths without compromising the fit to gravity data. The final density model provides valuable insights into the geological structures, thermal state, and composition of the Pyrenean lithosphere in the western region.

Summary: Mo determination is important for studying the Earth's interior structure, and can be recovered using gravimetric data based on the isostasy-compensation hypothesis in geodesy. An improved iterative inversion method combining 3-D integration and linear regularization is proposed to solve the nonlinear problem of isostasy. Two joint inversion scenarios utilizing horizontal components and all non-vertical components of the gravity-gradient tensor from GOCE are developed. The study provides new insights into the tectonic structure of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau based on high-precision satellite gravimetry.

Summary: The seismic receiver function technique is widely used for imaging the earth's deep interior economically. P-wave receiver functions constrain crustal thickness and average Vp/Vs by analyzing the Ps phase and multiples from the Moho. Regional studies often show significant differences between the Moho depth constrained by RF and by reflection/refraction methods.

Summary: The study focused on the Aegean Graben System in western Turkey, using differential evolution algorithm (DEA) to invert the depths of sediment cover-metamorphic basement. Parameterization was done through discretizing the basins into vertical blocks, and mathematical nature of the inverse problem was explored. Both synthetic and field data inversions showed that the maximum depths to the metamorphic basement reliefs in the grabens are shallower than previous findings, with the sediment thicknesses resolvable.

Summary: This study presents a gravity inversion procedure using the success-history-based adaptive differential evolution (SHADE) algorithm to reconstruct the 3-D basement relief geometry in sedimentary basins. The method involves exponential population size reduction and self-adaptive control parameters to solve the highly nonlinear inverse problem. The results demonstrate the power and reliability of the SHADE with EPSR strategy as an alternative inversion tool for highly nonlinear geophysical problems.

Summary: In this study, an onshore-offshore 3-D constrained gravity inversion methodology is proposed to generate a 3-D density anomaly model for Atlantic Canada and its environs. The model shows excellent correspondence with independent controlled source and passive seismic constraints. This model is a valuable resource for further study, such as deformable plate reconstruction modelling.

Summary: The Lomonosov Ridge in the Arctic Ocean was studied in terms of its crustal structure, velocity model, and gravity data. The study revealed the composition of the continental crust beneath the ridge and the presence of volcanic rocks related to a Cretaceous igneous province. The ridge also showed distinct basement blocks and different crustal domains, providing important insights into the Arctic Ocean's crust and magmatic processes.

Summary: The algorithm presented is tailored for point gravity data, aiming for exact placement of observations without interpolation. Discretization using an unstructured tetrahedral finite-element mesh and regularization following the Bayesian framework with a differential operator approximation of an exponential covariance kernel are key components. The algorithm minimizes computational costs and memory requirements by using diagonal entries of the regularization operator as the pre-conditioner and solving matrix systems with smoothed aggregation algebraic multigrid pre-conditioned conjugate gradient (AMG-PCG).
